Shrine's Legacy

Well, that was a huge disappointment. Watching the trailer for this game had me *hyped*. I was a huge fan of Secret of Mana and A Link to the Past, so this seemed like a slam dunk modernization with easy co-op - a big plus for me as I play a lot of games with a friend (usually via Parsec). Unfortunately, this has neither the tight, focused experience of LTTP nor the whimsical charm of Secret of Mana. We chose not to finish it, which is rare for us. It is clunky all around: movement, combat, puzzles, and story. (it's been a few weeks since I last played so forgive me if a couple details are off) * Movement is extremely basic and doesn't feel super tight, but it's passable. You have a basic attack, a magic attack, and a step back move. The controls reference a dodge button but six hours in, we hadn't unlocked that. * Combat is trivially easy. Spam attack button till they get too close, back up, spam again. Same for bosses. Magic was useful sometimes, but I mostly used it because I wanted some slight variety. There was absolutely zero challenge throughout our playthrough. * Puzzles are either extremely basic or esoteric and poorly explained. A lot of them are variations of angling…

The real antagonist of this game is the unskipable dialogs and cutscenes.

This game was a nice treat to play through for me. I enjoyed the story it told, as well as the fact that it has two endings. Overall a great game in my opinion

Great couch co-op fun! Very well polished SNES inspired indie gem.

Overall a good game. The story was very cheesy although a bit interesting at the end, I wish I could skip story faster, but gameplay was why I was here and it's fine. Perhaps a bit too easy after healing though.
