About Scarmonde

The God of Dragons beckons you to Scarmonde.

Gather your most trusted and skilled companions, then brave The Depths to locate each of the Dragon God's Sacred Treasures. Legends say paradise awaits the one who gathers all three, but will you and your band of adventurers be the first to have their wildest dreams become their new reality?

Before departing into The Depths below Scarmonde, you're tasked with assigning each of your nameless companions a Class. There are 12 Classes to choose from, all designed after the classic Knights, Clerics, and Thieves we all know and love.

The Classes you'll be able to mix-and-match to forge your ultimate team of adventurers is as follows:

The Knight. The Warrior. The Cleric. The Mage. The Thief. The Monk. The Paladin. The Hunter. The Sage. The Duskar. The Bard. The Dancer.

In this retro-styled RPG adventure, you're immediately thrust into the world and made to fight for your lives! Although the graphics may say otherwise, there's many modern conveniences to aid you on the journey to acquiring all the Sacred Treasures.

This game is being made for anyone who just wants to jump right into a classical RPG experience without any of the thick layers of story and dialogue bogging them down. Had my eyes on this game for a while and picked it up on a whim a bit ago. A really good dungeon grinder. Taking advantage of status ailments in battle, even against bosses, is fun. Also encouraged, since they take advantage of hitting you with status ailments, too. Enjoyed exploring the many dungeons and the world. 99% of the music in the game is a banger. I honestly have nothing bad to say about the game.

There's a lot to like in Scarmonde, with just a few complaints that barely tarnished my experience. The standout feature was the deep class system and character customization, be it through skill acquisition, gear that can profoundly impact a character's playstyle or the sub-class system. It was also nice to see a JRPG implementing a functional aggro system, allowing tank-style builds to shine in ways that many JRPGs don't. Enemies mostly play by the same rules as you do, too, with debuffs and status effects being an extremely valid (and in my playthrough, downright essential) piece of a party's kit. That said, I did have three issues throughout: 1) the more labyrinthine dungeons and layouts do not work that well in a random encounter game when there is no map to guide you inside them; 2) enemy variety is a little deceptive -- there's plenty of it, but beyond the first part of the game you will mostly be dealing with whatever enemy you fight in whatever way you generally manage encounters with party (there's very little of tactical countering, for the most part); 3) the gear and item system has plenty of variety, but the rate at which you get gear is simply too high. I love the pixel art, the music, the depths (no pun intended) of character dialogue, and even the 100 floor dungeon update. The classes, some are more useful than other's, such as Sage being a wonderful class for group magic damage, and it comes with a natural magic reflect chance I just found out about?? It feels very inspired by early Final Fantasy games, because I usually have no idea where I'm specifically supposed to go, but finding some place new most likely leads to something you need. The game itself moves you forward, but good luck feeling like you're on the right path. My only down sides, are that I can't record the game through Steam with any audio being picked up.

A game catered to all the uncs to reminisce about the days when they were young, healthy and happy, grinding away combat in jrpgs. Very little substance to this game, 90% of your playtime you'll spend fighting the same few enemies where you just hold one key to attack, unless you wanna unnecessarily hyper optimise everything and use spells to do a bit more damage.

Neat little game with fun battle mechanics. NES FF era aesthetics. Nice spell effects and animations. If you like thinking about party comps and builds and like the 8-bit presentation, this game is for you. The only 'weak' element of this game is the story, which is a by-the-books excuse plot. There's also a randomly generated dungeon you can play instead of the main game, and there's post game content too.
