About Rehtona 幻境双生

✦ AI summary

Rehtona is a puzzle adventure where you navigate between two interconnected worlds, manipulating one dimension to solve puzzles and collect memory fragments in the other. As you piece together your past, you'll uncover a mind-bending truth about your identity and reality itself across 32 cleverly designed levels.

GAME DESCRIPTION

Rehtona tells the story of a girl trapped between two contrasting worlds: the ordinary world, and the World Behind the Gate. After suddenly finding herself alone in the World Behind the Gate, Rehtona collects “memory fragments” (scattered throughout this world) in order to find out what happened – but whenever a complete image is assembled, a memory that doesn't seem to belong to Rehtona becomes imprinted onto her mind ...

Each level features a complete sequence of puzzles derived from the interactions between the two worlds. Players act in one world, and anticipate how it will impact the other world in order to overcome puzzles and find memory fragments.

As she painstakingly collects each missing piece by bouncing between two distinct dimensions, Rehtona’s ultimate quest for the truth may be more than she bargained for – a shocking revelation about herself … and even reality itself.

BACKSTORY

It was just an ordinary day….

As Rehtona chats with friends in the town square, the world as she knows it began to change without warning – and another world appeared to overlap with reality. Suddenly, Rehtona finds herself alone in the town square – and an unfamiliar door appears before her eyes. A weak voice could be heard behind the door … calling her name.

Rehtona musters up the courage to open the door, but she could see nothing but an isolated world beyond it. Then her own world begins to shatter as she falls into unconsciousness.

When she awakes, she realizes that she is still in her own world – but that world has now become empty and isolated … similar to what she saw on the other side of the door. She finds a photo in a picture frame lying in front of her house containing a simple yet mysterious message: “Find yourself...”

This marks the beginning of Rehtona’s journey – one you will not soon forget.

Ultimately, that's more or less what RE wound up being, yet with a distinct approach in its puzzle design. It impresses me how creative people can be for designing puzzles, and if you have the patience for it, can be some of the more unique and rewarding types of games to triumph in.
Gameplay
RE is a puzzle platformer, and unlike some games in that genre, doesn't focus on overly difficult or taxing platforming. A few stages could have been tweaked for easier mobility, but none of the puzzles are going to push the player's ability to make tricky jumps. Instead, the emphasis is much more on navigating stages and figuring out how you need to move the objects around to solve the puzzle. I know that when I'm already trying…

Rehtona is a great puzzle-platformer, with crisp gameplay mechanics, clever level design, and beautiful pixel art graphics. However, if you're going to spend money on it, buy the mobile version. The desktop version is way outdated, has no extra content, and generally doesn't seem to be supported by the developers anymore. In comparison, the mobile game gets regular updates, and has way more content — tons of DLC levels, as well as a level editor — all of which can be acquired for about the same price as the desktop version. The only downside to the mobile version is that it's very demanding, so slower phones and tablets may have trouble running it. Update: as of April 2021, the mobile version has also stopped receiving updates. But otherwise, everything above still holds true, so I still recommend getting that over the desktop version.

It's a good Puzzle game. Only annoyance is that the undo function has a cooldown and a animation too. If you have to redo more then 3 steps back then it is easier to just restart the entire level and do it all manually.

Very nice puzzle game, would recommend, especially if you like some sokoban action.

Pros: It's got a few fairly creative puzzle mechanics, along with some standard ones. More importantly, all the puzzles are well designed. The ability to rewind one "significant" move at a time is a very nice quality of life feature. Cons: Like many indie puzzle games, it is only 3-4 hours long and doesn't have much replay value. The story isn't worth much, and the game ends rather abruptly. Overall: If you are hungry for novel puzzle games, and don't mind them being short, it's not a bad choice. Especially if it's on sale. But it's not a must-get.

Rehtona is a small but well thought puzzle game in which you must collect jigsaw puzzle pieces by moving boxes and using a number of mechanisms to traverse the somewhat labyrinth-like levels. These levels are composed of 2 different worlds or dimensions in which different objects have different properties. The puzzles aren't excruciatingly hard, but can be rather tough at times, specially if you are trying to get all the collectibles for the true ending. As for the visuals, they have a pretty charming pixel art aesthetic which I, even though I am not fond in low res pixel art, enjoyed throughout the game.
