***IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT THIS GAME***
*****************************************
NEWEST UPDATE: new content is arriving! Look for 2024: Aliens Are Coming
This game currently uses the Unity game engine. Due to Unity's recent behavior at the corporate level, development on this game is halted until it can be ported to a new game engine. This is a massive undertaking that will not happen quickly, but it must be done. Much more content is planned, but the release of new content will be delayed until 2024 because of this. (If you're reading this after 2024, then a new game has been released in a different engine)

** Based on the Kindle novel: "2023: Alien Bugs Invade Earth" **
A threat is brewing on the outer reaches of the Solar system, and when it makes landfall in 2023, chaos will erupt worldwide. Panic will grip nearly everyone...except for you!
In this story-driven 2D casual platform shooter, run, jump, and shoot across levels as you try to take down the alien Insectoids. Since their exoskeleton armor is 3 inches thick, things might not go well for you on the first or second try...
Keep at it, and the end of each level contains text-based debriefings where you might discover what secrets humanity has been up to since the 1947 Roswell crash, and those secrets will help you gain upgrades in weapons and armor to turn the tide against the Insectoid invaders in the more challenging levels.
In the current early access version, the player can expect:
-To run/jump/shoot alien insectoid invaders on three 2D levels
-To read through visual-novel-styled beginnings and endings for each level outlining more information about what is going on during the invasion.
-Most sounds, music, and visual backgrounds already implemented
-Alien insectoid implemented with basic AI & sounds
-Placeholder sprite art for player/hero character
PLANNED ADDITIONS:
-Intermediate story ending (alien UFO and debriefing about government secrets)
-Later in the game, you will take the fight to the skies and into space on a 2D rail shooter in your top-secret space fighter. Your target is the hive queen mastermind behind the invasion!

Clearly unfinished early access project with writing ambitions far beyond its capabilities. Gameplay was kind of dull and I think I would have enjoyed a pure visual novel with actual sprites.
"2023: Alien Bugs Invade Earth" is a kind of a joke game that's more visual novel/e-book than actual game, and us gamers are left puzzling if the high school anime club dropout fan-fiction writing is just worse, or, much much worse than the laughably terrible 2D side scrolling pixelcrap shooter sections. The idea is, as the title says, bugs invade Earth, and of course we know this because of the super crap VN writing. This is interspersed with some of the worst 2D side scrolling shooting ever to be inflicted upon gamers. It's pretty clear this was put up on Steam in the hopes of "going viral" because it's "so bad, it's good". It was not good, and it did not go viral. The "developers" walked away from this 2 years and 6 months ago. This is never getting finished. This unfinished game is just polluting the store and making it harder for people to find real, actually finished games. This isn't good for gamers or for developers who do the right thing. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount…
normal but good
