222 Hearts is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one has one notable difference, in order to pass through each level, instead of just timing your jumps, you plan them with the mouse, clicking to start the jump and setting the direction. This allows you to trajectorise your double-jumps, which is needed to avoid all the spikes and so on. Needless to say this wasn't the shot in the arm that the old, dead, and obsolete 2D platforming genre needed. It's a flop. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Short but fun, a decent challenge at a low price. While the presentation is just ok considering the price and lenght (very basic menus, one single background, very little animation) it looks cute and the gameplay works well. The bosses are the only part i didn't like much, they were not fun but also not very hard to beat so it's not a big deal.

222 Hearts is essentially a precision platformer where you have to collect hearts while avoiding hazards. I know it's pretty short but I couldn't bother getting past 10 minutes because of how bad the controls are. Precision platformers require tight controls and this just doesn't have it.

A very simple and short puzzle platformer. There's not much to it. There are puzzle elements involved, but nothing too crazy. It's got some eye-pleasing artwork, nice simple music. It's a little difficult overall, but not really too much so, at least if you're experienced with difficult platformers. Probably a lot easier to play with a controller due to the required 2D directional precision aiming required. What's in the trailer is all you get, and you can finish the game in around an hour or less. It could have probably made do with a little story to better tie its bizarre heart theme together.
