About Absinth

Absinth is a psychological horror-thriller by indie developer blackHound Studios. Explore the chilling world of Zane Zaminsky and discover the unsettling events of his past.

It is a weekend in late July 2018 when Zane visits the US California Redwoods only to disappear without a trace shortly after arrival. Two days later, the local Police Department locates Zane on the main road near the Redwoods after receiving an anonymous tip. Chief Inspector Carter opens the investigation a few hours later, only to discover that not only does Zane have no recollection of the past two days, but the fact that he has a daughter has been completely wiped from his memory. As the investigation unfolds, more and more clues surface to suggest Zane’s past hides more than just the answer to his amnesia.
Experience what happened to Zane and how his life changed overnight. Hide from the unknown and try to distinguish between reality and illusion. Solve dimension-unraveling riddles to reach your targets and uncover the intrigue which brought Zane’s life to ruin. Decipher secret documents to expose the truth and win against your own mind to survive. Use the innovative AR glass to analyze your environment and constantly find new ways to avoid the encounter with the devious AI.
Absinth takes you to a world of fear, darkness, and loss, but also hope. The duplicitous presentation of scenes combined with the classic dark atmosphere will have your emotions twisted and in a constant state of heightened adrenaline. Experience unique storytelling and the innovative machinations of Absinth from a real indie developer studio in a way you’ve never played before.

Absinthe was unfortunately a miss for me. Going into it, I thought it had some potential. Visually, the game wasn't bad at all. The graphics weren't anything groundbreaking, but they were more than good enough for an indie horror title, and the overall presentation was perfectly playable. The biggest issue for me was the story. It starts with an interesting premise. You wake up with amnesia after being found wandering naked down the middle of the road. The police inform you that you've been missing for several days along with your wife and daughter, Absinthe. As you begin searching for answers, you discover that multiple people have disappeared in the area, with many believing a cult is responsible. That's a pretty solid setup. Unfortunately, after that, the story just started to lose me. A monster suddenly attacks the police station, you escape into the woods searching for the cult, and from there everything felt scattered. The narrative seemed to jump from one idea to another without much explanation, and I never really felt like I understood what was happening or why. Instead of building suspense, I spent most of the game feeling confused. The gameplay itself wasn't broke…

Can't see a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing, absolutely riddled with typos, and none of the voice actors have any emotion to them.

It's not even a quarter baked horror game. It's not finished, and what is playable should be considered a demo. It's janky, broken, ugly, and no. Feels a bit like an asset flip. Wouldn't be surprised if it is one.

Absolute crap! This game is full of reused assets and similar map structures, the voice acting and grammar is terrible and confusing (especially with puzzles), the enemies are dumber than a chicken stuck in a pillowcase and the game is optimized poorly at times for no reason.

I wanted to like this game, but in the last half, the enemy AI that one shots you, is a little too unfair. I could work with that and die over and over until I got good RNG, but the performance in the last section of the game is horrific. I have an RTX 3080 and even if I put it to the lowest settings at 1080p, it cannot manage 60fps. It is REALLY bad. Wish they made sure the game was stable before putting out on steam. I do not recommend.
