About Adventures in Morality: An Interactive Case Study

Why do people disagree over core moral values? Why are nations divided by staunch belief systems? Why is cilantro on food either loathed or loved?

Like personality-types, people possess different types of sympathy. The differences in sympathy-types is the root cause of all human conflict. Adventures in Morality (AiM) is a 3D interactive sympathy test as well as science fiction narrative.

When the game begins, you are asked to accept a research consent form. Once accepted, a brief 1950s educational film provides a more detailed explanation of sympathy-types. From there you are free to explore the surreal world of fireworks, giant dollhouses, and quiz questions. You may also read and listen to the story of of CYBIL, the artificial intelligence who built AiM for an ominous purpose.

When playing AiM, keep in mind, there is no "winning" or "losing." Self-discovery is the only prize. You may follow the science fiction narrative, or not. You may answer the quiz questions, or not. There is no right or wrong answer. There is only the beginning and the end.

AiM is the first of three games intended to calculate the players’ sympathy-type, perspective, and ability to compromise, respectively.

Played just few minutes, but it was enough. At the beginning you see an "instructional" video. In it, they say there are 3 types of people, They sey non of the three types is better than other but name one side "being" and the oposite "human" wich makes it pretty obvious which side they prefer. Then you hear someon talking about flowers, and then you see fireworks, and then you can choose from three sentences, and then i just gave up on this Bullcrap.

I hated it. Walking around randomly and not knowing what I was doing apparentely meant that I was a human who believed that all humans are equally intelligent, etc. I am not a communist (LOL). They put that in the pros by the way, It seemed to be acting as a horror movie for some reason. Sybil is someone. The parents are someone. Worst of all, they demonise people like Ayn Rand and Machieveli (along with many other people) just because the creators said screw it, I don't like them. This has to have been the most messed up interperatation of morallity I know. It is a very bad simulation, and I hated it. The ending was either a joke, or something else , but it was odd. So, in conclusion, this is bad. It is a semi horror game, semi screwed up morality test, semi something else. Not worth any ones time. The morality in this "study" was akin to a childs view of morality. Shouldn't be surprised.

Adventures in Morality: An Interactive Case Study is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this "art experience". Instead of being a game, Adventures in Morality: An Interactive Case Study is a software application that presents a poorly made art exhibition. This garbage art school dropout thing is basically a Facebook personality quiz... it truly is garbage with no value as a real game. Is doing a personality test something people think of as a "game"? Not really. We get this non-game shovelware on Steam whenever your usual Starbucks barista/McDonalds frycook art school dropout finally gets a restraining order from the local art galleries so turns to Steam Direct to try get their art published somewhere so they can finally dream of moving out of their parents basement. It's true that games can be art... art is where the pinnacles of craftsmanship and quality meet vision and narrative to create an experience far greater than the sum of the parts. This isn't a game at all, and the craftsmanship and narrative are terrible. This isn't making art better, it's just making gaming worse. Publishing things which aren't games…
