Alchemy Defender VR presents a tower defense game with a unique first-person combat twist that players find occasionally enjoyable, but it suffers from significant mechanical limitations. The main criticisms center on the lack of tower upgrades, minimal tower variety with no strategic counters between tower types and enemy classes, and awkward placement controls that cause jerky or failed placements. While some appreciate the four visually attractive maps and the ability to jump into first-person melee combat, most players feel the core tower defense mechanics are too simplistic and underdevel
Alchemy Defender VR, did TreeView Studios brew up a blast or did it turn out to be pretty vial? https://youtu.be/YR66qzbnU0w Puns aside, it's somewhere in the middle. I found alchemy Defender VR to be pretty mediocre. The Tower Defense mechanics are decent. Placing towers was slightly troublesome when placing near edges as the button press/release when placing the tower caused the placement to jerk. Rushed tower placements either meant a very sub optimal placement or failing to place the tower entirely. There did not seem to be any sort of creep to tower relationships. IE mortar counters slow groups, Ice counters runners etc... There were simply 3 towers. A low damage, a utility and a high damage. There was no upgrade system for towers. How do you make a TD game without the ability to upgrade your towers? That's half of the game... I would have liked to see more variety in towers and enemies. The TD aspect really needed to be fleshed out. The first person combat aspect was just bad. Enemies died at the slightest touch of the melee weapon. I could stand still and enemies would walk into the weapon and die. This is just unacceptable in any VR hack and slash. It's bad. Stop doi…9 found this helpful
You can view my review & gameplay here (along with footage of the Unreal Engine Crash at the end): https://youtu.be/V-CnU-AYhqk
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
So I saw this game on sale recently for $4.99 USD and I almost pulled the trigger. Then I saw this game as part of a VR bundle and was excited most for this game. Well ... now I'm just happy that I didn't pull the trigger and I'm only out about .50 cents USD versus the $4.99 USD. This game is bad. However, there are a few nice things about it. First of all, there are 4 beautiful environments to view, especially when you're playing in God mode (over the top mode). Really nice work on these assets. Also, in each of the four levels, you have different classes to play (different weapons) to go along with fighting different enemies. It's neat how you go from placing turrets in God mode, then go first person mode to fight the horde. You can teleport around in first person mode and also snap turn throughout. Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is horrible. It's dull & repetitive. There's only 3 turrets available: a fast-firing but low damage turret, a slowing & damage ice beam turret, and a slow fi…3 found this helpful
Here is my first time gameplay video: https://youtu.be/TEh1J2--RoE There are a lot of tower defense games out there but what I like about this one the most is the ability to jump into first person mode to beat the crap out of the enemy with either melee and ranged weapons! There are 4 total maps to play (that im aware of); each map has its own unique set of weapons you can use too which adds some variety to the game. I did find myself wanting to upgrade my towers on multiple occasions but sadly this is not a feature thats in the game which I hope is something they might add later on. Multiplayer support would be great too! Overall at its current price I'd recommend checking it out if you are a fan of tower defense.2 found this helpful
This game merges a simple tower defence game with first person combat. It's great fun!2 found this helpful

Surprisingly fun, though I'd like to see more of a progression where you slowly gain access to more kinds of towers and abilities, rather than just having the same three towers in different settings.
