From the creator of the Syberia series, experience Benoit Sokal's first adventure game masterpiece. In 1932, Alexandre Valembois was a young explorer who, with his native friend Antonio Álvarez, wanted to make a name for himself by exploring the mysterious Amerzone region. Befriended by the natives of the region, he witnessed a strange ritual involving a giant egg of the famed white birds. Wanting to prove that the white birds existed, Alexandre betrayed the natives' trust and stole the mysterious egg. Alas, upon his returning to France, nobody believed Alexandre or his journals about the Amerzone.
Sixty years have passed, and the world has changed. World War II has come and gone, the Amerzone remains unexplored and closed off to outsiders by its despotic leader, Antonio Álvarez. Monsieur Alexandre Valembois is an old man at the end of his life, living alone in a lighthouse and wishing to fix his mistake. This is when, a young reporter pays a visit to the old Alexandre Valembois regarding his adventures...

Why am I playing a game released over a quarter of a century ago, pre-rendered at a glorious 640x480, when I could play the remake from last year with luscious modern visuals? Never mind that, here's my review of a game that released just before the end of the 2nd millennium AD: I can confirm that this game is still playable and enjoyable in the 3rd millennium AD. But I insist that anyone who tries it use a walkthrough to get through the first part of the game if you get stuck. Unlike modern game design principles that try to ramp up difficulty, the Lighthouse section is the only part of Amerzone that's challenging. Once the journey actually begins, it's mostly smooth sailing (from a player perspective - the in-game journey has its headwinds). I only got stuck three times after this, one of which was due to a glitch that I'll describe later. The game has as much whimsy as I'd expect from a scenario designed by Benoît Sokal. A reporter stumbles upon a man in his final 45 seconds of life. Instead of writing a story about this, he instead drops everything to fulfil the old man's dying wish. i got this game from a random steam key, and let me just say it is one of the most ass games i have ever played, it gives you NO direction and you don't really do anything for the entire game. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME
