Angels of Amsterdam

There is only one good point: it is free. Download, watch, get disappointed, delete. To my taste the girls overact as if it were a school theater play. The plot is poorly dramatized. You just have to stay dying of boredom while they are screaming and telling tear-squeezing stories and wait to the end... in which nothing really happens. In addition to this, the main part of the VR experience is hidden and not allowed to see. Did they expect to touch someone's heart with THIS?

Censored part of a cinematic VR experience. It uses a mix of volumetric videos and 3D environments that looks horribly deformed half of the time. Which has been totally avoidable: many other VR movies use similar techniques with little to no issues. And acting is way too artsy for my taste: some parts look more like a weird interpretive dance rather than theatrical performance. Works on Reverb G2

"Angels of Amsterdam" is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this "art experience". Instead of being a game, "Angels of Amsterdam" is a software application that presents a poorly made art exhibition. Todays non-game art exhibition is a VR "experience", basically a VR movie from Amsterdam with a few FMV sequences and some average assets representing a "tavern" environment. You experience 4 chapters in this Youtube movie, but they're very short, this is a 15 minute Youtube video, barely interactive, and certainly not a game. We get this non-game shovelware on Steam whenever film school dropouts are desperate for anyone to give them validation, so they publish their short film on Steam because nobody watches their garbage on Youtube. There was a video section on Steam, but it's deprecated and basically closed, so failed filmmakers seem to just try to abuse the Steam games section instead. Why is this good for gamers? It's not. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where …

Echoing the other reviews: A short (14 min) experience in which two women sing/dance via partially impressive and partially janky photogrammetry visuals. Both scenes play out without much explanation... until the end, where you get a short recap of who they were and what was going on. I'd also like to see the "censored" content - can't be worse than some of the other junk I've encountered on Steam - shame it's missing from this release. Still, it's free, and sort of interesting. Worth a play through. Thumbs: UP!

Really beautifully executed atmospheric and well lit scenes and some of the best volumetric capture you'll see in VR right now. Shame some content is unavailable. Maybe a bit thin on content, the narrative is quite light, and not to everyone's taste, but this is a quality production.
