Cologne 3D

Cologne 3D is a free VR experience that is exploration of part of the city of Cologne, Germany. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok, was understandable. Has English instructions on the controller help and some English audio guides, but textual information is in German. Has vr movement mode of teleport. The maps are not photo realistic, the buildings are made with 3D creation software with plain textures. Shows some of the buildings in the past. Try this game, if you understand German and wanna visit Cologne.

As with anything that is free it is kind of hard to hate this app even if it’s utter crap. With super low-quality 3D models of Cologne and the smallest amount of educational information, this app really is kind of pointless and you can see all it has to offer in less than a single minute (and that is with listening to the narrator’s voice!) However, if used in an educational setting maybe there will be some use for it. But apart from that very situation I really can’t see the point in anyone downloading this because you would be far better off looking on Google Street maps!

Cologne 3D is not a game. It's a simple, low poly 3D Non English representation of some parts of historic Cologne in Germany. There are no game loops, interaction is limited to walking around simple "roped off" areas to look at the low poly buildings from afar. This seems to have been launched in the Games section on Steam by mistake, instead of the software section. This is a common mistake made by developers unfamiliar with Steam, or who don't know the difference between things which are games, and things which are not. The quality here is very poor. Low poly art was used, despite the purpose of such a software app to be as rich and detailed as possible. Some of the buildings aren't even textured, and what textures there are, are very low res. The developers dropped the ball on the controls, if you have a HOTAS or any dedicated PC gaming peripheral, the developers decided that it is a console peasant childrens toy gamepad, so you run constantly forward and to the left. Controls are locked and can't be changed, so there's no way to rectify this error from the developers. If this was a game and could be played, this defect would render it unplayable.
