Players appreciate Apocalich as a fun, replayable short RPG with engaging multiplayer that works well with friends, praising the visible map concept where you can watch NPCs and the Lich cause mischief across the world. However, common complaints center on slow character movement speed, performance issues, tedious combat, and a punishing day/night cycle that combines with the sluggish pace to make progression feel like a slog rather than enjoyable exploration. The game is designed around multiplayer, which significantly improves the experience but leaves single-player feeling unfinished and un
It is a really fun short RPG with great replayibility. Its really fun with multiple players. There are a lot of quests and a few fun events that happen on the map. Seeing the whole map all the time is a really fun concept and watching the NPC's and the Litch do evil stuff on the other side of the map is very fun!1 found this helpful
An unfinished game with potential, but riddled with bugs. The single-player experience is terrible, but adding more players drastically lowers the difficulty. It’s clear this game is designed for group play—almost as if it’s nudging you to make friends. Achievements like reaching level 50 become much easier with more players, reinforcing the idea that social interaction is the core mechanic.1 found this helpful
Unplayable due to how slow the player moves.1 found this helpful
Not much to sink your teeth into. I do understand what a sokpop game is supposed to be, but this is a low uninteresting slog of repetition. The combat feels very samey throughout, and the quests can get frustrating with how little you can accomplish in one day/night cycle. A few times I ran out of time or got caught in a combat that made me miss something because the clock runs so fast and the characters move so slow. Speed up walking a bit. Speed up combat a tad. Then you got yourself a fairly quick and frictionless game that doesn't need to be a slog to get through. I have all the sokpop games because I like supporting indie devs, but I wouldn't recommend this to others.
Apocalich, developed and published by Sokpop Collective, is a compact but surprisingly layered indie role-playing game that blends classic fantasy adventure ideas with a constant sense of urgency and playful experimentation. True to Sokpop’s design philosophy, the game is built around a clear central concept rather than scale: a dark lord known as the Lich is steadily growing stronger, and the entire world is caught in a countdown toward apocalypse. From the moment the game begins, players are made aware that time is a limited resource, and every decision — where to travel, which fights to take, and which objectives to pursue — carries weight. This framing immediately sets Apocalich apart from traditional RPGs that encourage endless grinding, instead pushing players to think strategically and act decisively. The world of Apocalich is small but densely packed with activity, and one of its most interesting design choices is that the entire map is visible from the start. Rather than uncovering fog-of-war through slow exploration, players can observe the Lich’s influence spreading in real time, watching towers activate and threats escalate across the landscape. This transparency trans…
