About Ark Defender

Humanity flees a disaster in the Terran Republic, but only a handful survive. These survivors flee into the galaxy in whatever ships can be retrofitted for multi-generational deep space survival. These Arks hold the last of Humanity. The remains of the Republic’s worlds are hurled at super relativistic speeds ahead of the Arks, seeding the space before them with deadly asteroids.

-Take control of an Ark and defend it from threats without... and within

-Make your way through a hostile galaxy defending the your Ark from more than 15 different alien races and 31 different bosses

-Decide the fate of your populace; rule as a tyrant, allow chaos to reign, support democratic governments, or vent your problems into space (to be clear venting your problems into space should never be off the table regardless of your other choices)

-Discover more than 500 unique encounters

-Build your flotilla & upgrade your Ark

-See how long you can keep humanity's last hope alive!

https://youtu.be/s74IjfSH0AE So you've read the description and now you're down here in the comments trying to figure out what's it all about. Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game. Ark Defender is a roguelike space sim that from the start you can tell was inspired by games such as: FTL, Asteroids and Missile Command. You are not only responsible for protecting the outside of the ship from asteroids, hostile aliens and all kinds of space gas; but also the inside by enacting policies, making tough decisions and possible venting a person or five. There are plenty of weapons to build, resources to manage and ships to construct. You the player must find the proper balance of health, happiness and safety for your people as you are humanities last hope. I highly recommend this game for anyone who is a huge fan of the games mentioned above or lovers of sims/management style games. You’ll easily lose yourself in space and yes, no one can hear you scream.

Interesting premise! It's a decent enough game, nice genre-mix but some improvements could take it to the next level. -Art- Firstly, I think the art needs a little touch up. As it is, it makes the game feel cheaper than it has to be. The first thing I noticed were the edges, they could be smoother. The UI art sticks out like a sore thumb in the corner, they look like placeholder elements. IMO, the ships could have better complementary colors, I can't really say exactly what it is but the colors kind of make it look off and cheap. Maybe slight changes in the color tone would make it feel just right. I can say that when looking at the store page, color decisions kind of put me off but the gameplay ideas drew me in. I think the ship shapes are great, I had no problems with that. -Gameplay- There are great ideas here and it's fine as it is but IMO this game could embrace the shmup more. In a lot of ways, it could feel faster. I think everything could move faster and it would be fine. Given the stationary position of the player (which is good and what makes it unique) adding a defensive right click option (e.g. similar to what those green enemies in the first few zone…

Did you ever wish FTL had a story mode? Ever wonder what it would be like to try and keep a population of 1200k happy? How about trying to calculate if you brought enough portable black holes to deal with this round of enemy ships? I love this game so much. Your story plays out over the parsecs as you explore and fight your way onward. Highly recommend.
