Army Men II

There’s something weirdly charming about a game where your biggest threat isn’t just enemy soldiers it’s the environment itself. Army Men II leans hard into that idea, and while it shows its age, it still manages to be a memorable little time capsule. You play as Sarge again, dropped into a backyard warzone where everything is oversized and hostile. Hoses become deadly hazards, kitchen appliances feel like industrial machines, and a simple patch of grass turns into a tactical nightmare. That sense of scale is easily the game’s biggest strength it gives the battles a unique identity that still stands out. Gameplay is straightforward top down shooting, and it’s… rough around the edges. Movement can feel stiff, aiming isn’t always precise, and the difficulty spikes can be brutal in ways that don’t always feel fair. You’ll die a lot sometimes because of your mistakes, and sometimes because the game just decides you should. That said, there’s a certain old school satisfaction in pushing through it, even if it feels extremely unfair at times which a game should never do. A amazing game and in my opinion the best in the army men series. Just the right amount of difficulty and oozes charm. Great for any kid or adult.

Good childhood memories, thanks for having it here on steam

Much easier than the first game and I would say overall a better experience, even though the changes to the controls are a mixed bag, with your direct character controls just being way less precised than before.

Army Men II left me feeling mixed at times but overall I had a fun time completing the campaign as someone who never played the original Army Men games on PC but played ones on the PS1 & PS2. I personally found the gameplay to be fun enough to beat it in a day but your fun'o'meter may very wildly from mine. As made aware from other reviews 2K removed the multiplayer mode from the game but can be easily added back, I never played it back in the day so I didn't find it very compelling to play more than one game against the AI. The audio at times left me wishing I was deaf, do you like alarms blaring the whole level? (Thankfully only happens in 2 levels) The friendly AI pathing along with them running past you and blocking your path made me wish I was dead. There is mouse jitter problems playing on modern hardware, lowering the mouse DPI helped a bit but could not correct the problem and was a constant frustration I was battling the whole game. Playing in window mode fixed the problem but it would have to run in 800x600 so I chose just to deal with it. You will most likely not enjoy playing this if you have no love for the Army Men series or don't care for older PC games.
