ASSAULT SHELL

This game deserves so much more love than it got. I 1ccd it, then I got the 2-All, then I wrote a guide for it. It may not matter, but I love your game. Diet lemon Coke Clover, but more fun and broken. Achievements don't work, neither does type D's options, or the input rebinds.... I'll always be waiting for part two. EDIT: Part two came out and it blows ass, don't buy it. :(

Do you like a good Hyper System? Or even better... a well-crafted and finely-tuned Double Break? Then Assault Shell is for you. Except it doesn't quite end there. And that's because Assault Shell has taken upon itself to grace us with the fabled... *drum rolls*... TRIPLE BREAK!!!~ Before I get to that though, let's first deal with the enormous elephant in the room: this game's visuals. Don't trust the screenshots, and don't trust the videos. Sure, it looks rough around the edges; I even joked with my hubby that the entire game was probably drawn in MS Paint. That said though, Assault Shell possesses an extremely distinct visual charm; and it only makes sense once you start to actually play the game for yourself. The graphics are extremely, and I mean, EXTREMELY crisp, pure, and direct. There is never ever any doubt with respect to what you're seeing on the screen. This is a quality which ultimately trumps everything else in an STG: visual clarity. And what Assault Shell does insanely well is that it takes this MS Paint charm and injects a healthy dose of Holy Water into it. What you're left with is what I like to call: functional beauty. This is an average modern shmup. Nice variety of ships. You'll utilize all of your buttons for different things. Great if you own an arcade stick. It's a good 5 dollar game, way overpriced at 10 dollars. I wish there were more continues. Sometimes, I don't even know what killed my ship tbh. Plays like an early access game.

Achievements don’t work, score doesn’t save sometimes, sequel looks to be in purgatory………….and it doesn’t matter. One of the most fun shmups I’ve ever played and one of my most cherished 1ccs. The flow state this game gets you into is second to none. Highly recommend.

For me, Assault Shell (アサルトシェル) is one of the greatest shmups I`ve ever played in my life. Despite the art being kinda choppy, the mechanics makes this game really great. The soundtrack by A2B is banger, and the stages are filled barrages of bullets and adrenaline. I highly recommend this game to people who enjoy shmups a lot.

Just gonna list my gripes. - The tutorial tells you how to play but the buttons on my controller make zero sense - The graphics are horrible - It's a small window that's far too busy, your ship is too big and I swear to god I don't even know what is hitting me - I can't even tell what is happening. Status stuff is in the way of everything, and it's unreadable. - My biggest gripe is the bullet patterns. You'll get swarmed on easy-mode right from the get-go because you happened to be on the wrong side of the screen and thus it's impossible to dodge anything. It's so completely unforgiving because it relies on you to memorize rather than have fun trying to actually play it. Also, don't make enemy bullets blend in with your own.
