About Aurora
NOTE: Requires Ultraleap Hyperion or Gemini to be installed, with a compatible tracking camera connected.
Aurora is a virtual space created by Ultraleap – it contains islands where each hosts a different experience for you to explore. Follow our tutorials which will show you how to navigate around the space without having to physically move yourself, and learn how to use your hands by imitating our ghost hands.
Aurora is all about interaction. You will pinch in the air to generate different colour ribbons of paint that you can use to create your own abstract art in VR. You will spawn shapes with your fingers, and then grab and stack them with your hands. You will interact with an exploded view of a product, using your hands to orientate a turntable to more easily examine and pick up different sized components.
Along with being a fun creative experience, Aurora showcases our experience with hand tracking interactions and interface design reflecting a lot of what we have laid out in our XR design guidelines. It has been built using our Unity plugin which means you can see exactly what is possible to build for yourself with our developer tools.

"Aurora" is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, "Aurora" is a software application that provides a garbage VR tech demo where you can wave your hands around to create "art" in VR and muck around with as few objects like a Fischer-Price activity set for toddlers. None of which is gameplay. The true purpose of this garbage was to advertise a Tencent backed business called Ultraleap that went under and was carved up and sold for pennies on the dollar. Because apparently this garbage non-game was the best they could come up with. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position.
