"Avast Ye" is a student project from the Brigham Young University in Utah, USA. This traditional 3D third person platformer eschews jumping for a Spider-Man swing mechanism that doesn't work too well and makes any hopes of a retro platformer experience somewhat futile. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game c…1 found this helpful
If you loved Sonic Heroes, Devil May Cry, and autism, boy do I have a game for you! I'll never get over the loss of the high trust society we once had in America, but Brigham Young University brought me something equally precious in the form of the silent but deadly pirate captain that is aunt Kate. Her teeny, tiny adventures grant you access to your very own loyal crew of bugmen. Smash and bomb your way through enemies until you're the last ant standing, sitting and spinning. Don't expect to jump worth a damn though, but hey, you can collect pirate trayjer from big booty collectibles scattered throughout the massive and only level (jeeze, it's so good, why not more? Why God? WHY!) Them chests of swagger more than make up for your lack of jumpin' with that dopamine hit of gooooooooold. You can even upgrade your freak bug persons to be stronger than an ant and maybe even Goku. The game does have its flaws but it's a short and sweet experience for a real azz gamer. Don't fall into the floor-is-lava soda like a biznatch and you got a decent 30 minutes to an hour of action packed, swashsuckin' adventure. Avast ye, fleabags, and let Kate the literal bug woman become your greatest waifu …
