If "Among the Sleep" was in Black&White, with bad controls and a lot more boring. Just go play that other game instead. The aesthetics are good and very well drawn... but that's all this game has to offer... I really wanted to like this game, but it falls short on every other aspect. Controls are terrible (amazing achievement considering you can only move, crouch, jump and run), sound design is not great, very repetitive, puzzles are incredibly simple, it felt really slow considering I finished it in just 2.2 hours. The "heavy subject" in domestic abuse it tries to tell, just falls short on most of its aspects, it tries so hard to shove it down your throat, it doesn't really make you reflect on it since the pacing is all over the place and all the gameplay inconveniences made me feel annoyed more than anything. I can't even recommend this game even on sale (like I did) It had potential, just needed more developing time
Very unique art style, and probably the best thing to come out of the IP entering the public domain. The story is pretty hit or miss. The ending worked really well for me, and the game does a good job of using abstract metaphors to portray what living with an abusive parent can feel like as a kid. At the same time, I think a lot of the game feels undercooked, with some ideas that never really reach their full potential. That said, it's still a nice way to spend a couple of hours, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a short psychological horror game.
Not a terrible game, definitely a great metaphor for child abuse, neglect, and depression. A recommended purchase for me; my only gripes other than some technical issues is that it feels like it's the first chapter of a series. I hope this does well enough and we can see an expanded story. I love the monster designs in this one. Real mix of demons and cosmic horror wrapped in as one. Definitely pick this up on sale.
Pretty cool art and design but a lil too short for me
7-1-26 good game. Interesting fun. Cartoonish. Nice concepts.
