BAD SECTOR ³ (2025)

A surprising and atmospheric gem, much more than an Exit 8-Like. I played Bad Sector ³ expecting something similar to Exit 8, as many new indie horror titles lean in that direction. Instead, I was genuinely surprised. The atmosphere here is entirely its own, oppressive, strange, and at times even oddly fun. There’s a unique identity to this game that sets it apart immediately. The first steps can feel tough : three floors, shifting rooms, and only three mistakes allowed before being thrown back down. But just like with other anomaly-spotting games, patience pays off. Once you take the time to learn the space, understand how the environment behaves, and get familiar with the types of aberrations, things start to click. In Normal mode, anomalies eventually become fairly obvious. Hard mode, though ? Good luck, lol. It reminded me of the wild complexity of Observation Duty, where you think you’ll never keep track of everything, and somehow you still do. I also want to highlight the developer’s responsiveness. Spot the difference in a 3 dimensional map and/or clinical diagnostic tool for autism. Needs way higher visual fidelity and far more performant rendering to work as either. Typically, if one can't afford hyper-realism, one hyper-stylizes to make up for it. However, it appears this was developed in the first Source engine in 2005. The game literally makes my eyes water playing it and the repetitive/overbearing sound effects only serve to heighten the frustration. It's an interesting idea that deserves its chance to be iterated on, and I hope Studio Vagina does so. Cannot recommend at the current price point of $8. Maybe $5. Probably $2. Cool as a prototype, but many failures led to this being a full release. Always willing to change a review. Also, unless this was a thematic choice, it's mouse sensitivity, not sensibility.
