What Steam players say

Players generally agree that Balan Wonderworld has an interesting art style and decent music, but is hamstrung by hollow and repetitive core gameplay, particularly the inflexible costume system that forces frequent loadout management instead of allowing free switching. Many find it bad enough to be entertainment value as a curiosity or streaming novelty, though some appreciate it enough to have fun despite its significant flaws.
I desire Balan carnally and want to wonder his little world, but if I give this game a bad review it feels like I'm picking on the handicapped12 found this helpful
Balan Wonderworld is exactly what I expected. I didn’t think it would be good –rarely do you hear such unanimous criticism– but I was curious to see whether it was exceptionally bad or just a normal, though underwhelming, experience. And unsurprisingly, it turned out to be the former, just as so many people have already warned. Balan is in a weird position, suffering from the exact opposite problem of most other poorly reviewed games. The execution of everything is actually fine and several elements, namely the art and music, are quite good. Where it fails is that its core gameplay is completely hollow on both a conceptual and practical level. This genuinely feels like some sort of tech demo where everything except the bare necessities was trimmed away so that the underlying system could flow as smoothly as possible, except you’re normally supposed to build up from that foundation until it becomes interesting. Balan instead thought that this was sufficient to be an entire game, creating an experience that seems explicitly designed to be as simple and unengaging as possible. —------------------------------------------------- The core gimmick of this game is its costume system. i actually really like this game, its very charming and fun but confusing. a lot of the lore and story was hidden in a book so you never really know what's happening which is a shame because i think the lore is really cool and fun and you should totally go read the book.
...this game is a tapestry of different stories and different world views that flow about as coherently as the ♥♥♥♥ in my toilet bowl. It acts as a patchwork of stained toilet paper all following an incoherent story of the main protagonist who has the same flavor and character of a wad of gruel. I cannot fathom how such a game was worked on by a legitimate company where people work. It makes games such as garten of banban seem like well told masterpieces that would have their player base tell their children and their children's children of. The game looks as though someone threw up vibrant color everywhere in random directions and called it a day. What even is a “Fox Box” a “Ladder Man” (I could go on) speaking of… the controls of this video game equate to one button maybe two if you are lucky, this is a fascinating direction. By this I mean it makes the game about as interesting as paint that has already dried. Every character and npc you happen to stumble across in the open world vanishes like apparitions, hollow ghosts that will never see the light of day until your character leaves their general vicinity. Whatever story there might be in this game is never explained. The titul…
