About The Sinking City 2

✦ AI summary

The Sinking City 2 is a third-person survival horror set in a flooded 1920s Arkham where you manage scarce resources, solve unnerving puzzles, and uncover eldritch secrets while rescuing a loved one trapped between worlds. Exploration and optional investigations are key to survival, rewarding you with safer routes and upgrades that let you face increasingly fearsome Lovecraftian horrors with better preparation.

A survival horror in Lovecraft's worldThe Sinking City 2 is a third-person survival horror set in 1920s Arkham. Deliberate, tense, and resource-lean: pressure builds as you push deeper, relief comes in brief refuge, and fear is something you manage. Mind your inventory, take on unnerving puzzles, and double back via unlocked shortcuts for supplies and upgrades.Arkham, New EnglandA Roaring ’20s port city buckling under a supernatural flood. Tide-stained avenues and battered Art Deco. Speakeasies gone dark. Districts feel lived-in and water-worn, with routes by foot and skiff, shortcuts behind collapsed seawalls, and secrets tucked in boarded parlors. You’ll navigate a hospital where science hides its face, a fish market where the merchandise bites back, and descend deep below the city to where eldritch horrors stir.A rescue with impossible stakesA ritual gone wrong trapped her soul in the Dreamlands, and now malevolent forces have stolen her body. To rescue the woman you love, you must walk a dangerous path through catastrophe to the source of the flood — her presence always felt, but rarely seen.Fearsome foesThe Slither animate the dead. Deep Ones surge from dark water. Shadows bend space and test nerves. Some fights must be met head-on; others demand a retreat to rearm, retune your build, and return better prepared. Or take on an optional investigation and come back with an upgraded gun.Investigate at willExploration is the key to survival. Read ritual residues, sift through grisly clues, decode journals that shouldn’t exist, and pry at masks that won’t come off. Optional cases never gate progress — but they unlock safer routes, hard supplies, and upgrades that change how you endure the next encounter.Built with uncommon devotionThe Sinking City 2 draws on Frogwares’ detective roots to deliver survival horror that runs deep and hits hard. Shaped by studio obsession and community feedback, it’s a faithful Lovecraft experience: myths made manifest, and the inconceivable fear that results.

✦ AI summary

The Sinking City 2 receives mixed praise for its Lovecraftian storytelling and atmosphere, which fans of survival horror appreciate, but players are notably divided on its combat system—which many consider clunky, unbalanced, and poorly designed, with melee dealing minimal damage, unreliable firearms, and enemy respawning issues that undermine the survival mechanics.

After just finishing the game I can say I truly recommend this game, as both a fan of survival horror and lovecraft, I love the way that Frogwares approached the mythos, and the story they told was equal parts tragic and hopeful. I don't think I'll be forgetting that final shot anytime soon. If you enjoy games like the more recent Resident Evil games and don't mind a little AA jank, or if youre a fan of the Lovecraft Mythos, you'll find something to really enjoy here! Top work to the devs!

I was a kickstarter backer, why, because I loved the first game, brilliant game, this is a serious downgrade, if I want to play Resident Evil I will play Resident Evil, that is not what I want to play when I go into The Sinking City and yet this is what we got! Combat is atrocious, especially the mele, you do zero damage, meanwhile enemies will knock you down in one, what the hell, weapon combat, also bad, it's like the bullets and shotgun shells do bugger all and aiming is no use, 99% of the time it is a miss and all you do is waste ammunition, as for ending enemies permanently, I've stomped bodies into what should be red paste, and then they just got back up again!, or they somehow get into the physical terrain and you cant get them. Another example of a game that didnt need fixing but was "fixed" and by fixed I mean of what is done to dogs at the vets. I know that Frogwares is in Ukraine and that they are still being attacked, in which case the game should have been delayed until it is over so more attention could be put into it. Really dissapointed!

The people comparing this to RE2remake are a little off. The gameplay is a poor imitation of RE3remake. Has a dodge but worse, some decent puzzles and some nonsensical solutions in a few. Melee is terrible: no enemy hit stun or stagger, you can't interrupt them with your hits, the melee upgrade for the shotgun is a straight downgrade. The game tells you to stomp on worms to prevent enemies coming back, but some can't be gotten rid of and enemies will respawn anyway in rooms without them. Combat feels bad. Weapon upgrades feel like an after thought like doing more damage when you fire more non-stop rounds with the thompson, but ammo is scarce , crafting barely gets you any even with the upgrade and full auto is a waste when enemies have clear weakspots. You know your game isn't tuned well when EVERY boss arena has infinitely refilling ammo and health boxes. Usually in RE clones like this you'd get ammo for the weapons your carrying and I don't know if I just had a bad bug, but I only ever got ammo for weapons in storage so I'd have to make constant trips back and forth just to progress through a room that might have an enemy respawn the next time through. And it's not lik…

Sort of a fusion of RE2R and Cronos with good lovecraftian storytelling. The devs definitely took notes on other successful and enjoyable survival horror games and delivered one of their own. There's no open world like in the original one, in fact this game is very little like the original one at all except with the same vibe and basic concept. I liked the original for what it was, but in the intro text from the devs notes they think this is the best game they've made to date and I'm inclined to agree.
