Let's make this short: Simple, effective, fun upgrades, facepalmed at some jokes but I think that was the point. The levels are fun to navigate, and I really had the desire to 100% every levels. I never felt like "Ah, sh*t.. I gotta get back in..", which is pretty good. Only things that I could consider a negative (although not a fun killer in any way) is that to some extent, you become too strong. I had a hard time for a moment, then it became smooth sail until the end. That's a positive in the sense that you really do upgrade and get more efficient, but even the challenges in the final stage felt like "meh..", and the worst part is: Even the final boss becomes way too easy, if you make good uses of your skills. Just, be aggressive and get it over with.. and it's done. So yeah, for retro fans? Absolutely, give it a shot! It's a fun throwback to fast-paced, tight control retro games. For those of you who wants a challenge, well.. Speedrun and another hidden mode are available for you, I guess? ;) Still, I think it's worth discovering. Good job, Devs. I had a great time. :)

Excellent little game if you enjoy Shovel Knight, Megaman, etc. Good price, well balanced difficulty, solid responsive controls and juuust enough of a unique feel vs similar games. Very much worth playing.

Bat Boy is a delightful blend of classic side-scrolling action and modern indie game design, offering a nostalgic experience that feels inspired by the golden era of 8-bit platformers while introducing enough fresh ideas to establish its own identity. Developed by X PLUS Co., Ltd. and Sonzai Games, and published by DANGEN Entertainment, the game follows Ryosuke, an ordinary student who transforms into the superhero Bat Boy to confront the villainous Lord Vicious and rescue his fellow athletic champions. The sports-inspired premise gives the adventure a unique personality, creating a lighthearted yet exciting narrative that complements the fast-paced gameplay without overwhelming it. The game's strongest feature is its polished gameplay loop, which combines responsive platforming, satisfying combat, and rewarding exploration. Bat Boy's baseball bat serves as more than just a weapon, allowing players to attack enemies, reflect projectiles, trigger environmental mechanisms, and solve various puzzles throughout the journey. As rescued teammates regain their freedom, Bat Boy inherits their special abilities, gradually expanding his movement options and combat techniques. These newly ac…

This game has its hard moments, but other than maybe a few bosses, the challenge is more than fair unlike a lot of old NES games. A really good and underrated retro platformer.

If you grew up with NES / SNES / or even the Genesis/Mega Drive - you owe it to yourself to play this game. The gameplay is incredibly smooth and fun with awesome new abilities and mechanics that you get along the way. The soundtrack and level design are *chef's kiss* and I had a smile the entire time. You can bet it under 6-8 hours, but it's absolutely worth it. My only gripe with it is that the potions and assigned to the trigger buttons and really should be an item in the menu to use so you don't consume it accidentally - also I went 90% through this with 3 hearts, and didn't know until the end of the game that you can upgrade your health to get more - I wish they forcefully showed it early on like how they showcase the new abilities you get after each level. But the pros heavily outweigh the cons - and for the on-sale price under 5 bucks, you cannot beat that. PLAY THIS GAME Score: 9.2/10
