Right, so apparently I'm one of the few people who grew up with the original Battletoads AND actually loves this reboot. This is what you put on for the kids before introducing the proper stuff. Then they announce the reboot was better, and you have to sit them down for the talk - the one where you explain that you love them, but you're deeply, deeply disappointed. The way I see it, we could've had two things. Option A: a limp attempt to recreate what the original had - no real dialogue, endless combat that's the same punch, kick, punch, kick, over and over like a stress dream, and an even limper attempt at humour. Or Option B: something a bit more its own thing. Nice graphics, a decent variety of combat moves that's fun enough to watch, a handful of mini-games like the first one had, real voice acting where you can tell the money went somewhere, and - imagine this - a game where the developers were at least trying. For the fans. Fair enough. Now, I played Battletoads on the NES and the GameBoy. Not because I'm old. Because Battletoads is a good game, and I have taste. You don't often see a polished, good-looking, fun game like this get a bad rep. until you check and see this reboot got absolutely destroyed by 40 y/o snowflakes mad at a character not being oversexualized like in the 90's or not being insanely difficult to beat like in the 90's. I can't....i just cringe at the lines, i don't know if the OGs were like this, but the story writing is millennial BS and i can't listen to those dad jokes for more than an hour. Game looks good tho. Just can't push myself more than this1 found this helpful
It was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I just played 8 minutes and I am already asking for a refund!
The main beat em up combat is fun. Good variety of enemies but some parts feels a bit unbalanced. Some of the other game modes needs more balancing too. Love the hand drawn artstyle but the Dark Queen outfit redesign doesn't fit her character. Her personality is on point at least. The other characters are well done and are on point. The older Battletoads games are hard but great. Battletoads (2020) is an decent sequel. 7/10
