About BeatRider
【Story】
This is a world where humans and the conscious beings known as Kururu coexist.
The study of the essence and mechanisms of Kururu has not yet reached any conclusions that have achieved widespread consensus.
However, it is generally agreed that it is a form of life that exists in harmony and resonance with all human mental and physiological rhythms,
capable of interacting with humans during cognition, thought, or communication.
Humans must maintain a benign balance with Kururu to ensure the stability of their sanity and cognitive abilities.
However, only a very few humans can visually identify, physically perceive, and manipulate Kururu, and conduct systematic research on them.
We call these individuals "Tuners."
This summer, Mioi (barely) passed the professional exam and came to Baixiang City as an apprentice Tuner, along with Kasula and Syss.
This is a coastal city with nearly two centuries of history but not much communication with the outside world, which, however, has attracted the attention of the Tuners Association in the past decade.
As the routine tasks were carried out, this metropolis began to exhibit abnormalities, with phenomena of group dysregulation becoming increasingly common and severe.
At the same time, two mysterious Tuners who had received special commissions also arrived in Baixiang City...
【Exploration】
· Unravel the Secrets of Baixiang City
Gain unique encounters through random routes, with each successful patrol bringing you closer to the "truth."
· Card-based City Patrol
Flip through the perilous mission cards, respond carefully, and make the best adventurous decisions for your team.
【Combat】
· Magical Girls Forging Ahead
Execute splendid combos with a single click, block at the right moment, and engage in fast-paced combat that's simple in attack and defense but infinitely variable!
Style Over Substance
BeatRider immediately catches your eye with its comic inspired visuals and gritty tone. The character designs pull you in with a lot of personality and the soundtrack is undeniably chill. It is a 2D roguelite that ventures into the unique and still fairly unsaturated scene of rhythm combat. You can really feel the developers passion and dedication shining through the presentation, but that is unfortunately where the praise starts to taper off.
The Rhythm & The Grind
The core gameplay is standard for the roguelite genre but fails to stay engaging. Progression relies heavily on collecting coins to level up your character. This process quickly becomes a tedious and repetitive grind because the game lacks the necessary content and gameplay variables to keep things fresh. For a title with the word Beat in its name, the rhythm elements are surprisingly scarce. When the rhythm mechanics do appear, they feel unresponsive and janky. Combined with a completely forgettable story, there are barely any incentives to actually finish a run.
Current State & Verdict
It is difficult to recommend the game right now because it simply does not offer eno…41 found this helpful
I guess I'll leave a detailed review here since none of the ones available as of this writing seem to talk much about the game. Alright, here we go, time to satisfy my hero complex! So straight up, the game isn't terrible, but it is very confused. It doesn't know if it wants to be a visual novel, a rhythm game, a board game or a fighting game. The problem here isn't necessarily that in itself, but rather that it doesn't do ANY of those particularly well. It also soft locks mid battle for no reason sometimes. Every stage starts off the same. You start on a tile with a "scope out" tile next to you, and a question mark. There are 3 characters in the game, you can't choose which one you play as, they each take turns. Every actions on the Monopoly like board switches your character. So, back to the tiles. Every character has 3 "SP" bars under their name. These SP points are used to do various things on tiles, such as the "scouting tile". It does, the "scouting tile" that is, what it says. You can uncover question mark tiles. With me so far? Why... in the blue hell... would I use an SP point to uncover the question mark tile at the start of the level? I mean, no matter what it is, I …32 found this helpful

BeatRider is an ambitious indie title that combines supernatural storytelling, roguelite mechanics, and anime-styled action into a package that feels refreshingly different from many games in its category. Developed by 无限电玩 and Combo X Camp and published by Neverland Entertainment, the game introduces players to a world where mysterious creatures known as Kururu coexist with humanity, influencing emotions, thoughts, and even physical conditions. Players assume the role of Mioi, a young apprentice Tuner who arrives in the historic Baixiang City alongside her companions to uncover the source of a growing wave of strange incidents. The setup immediately establishes a sense of intrigue, inviting players into a setting where everyday life and unexplained phenomena are tightly intertwined. What makes BeatRider stand out is its commitment to world-building. Baixiang City is portrayed as an isolated coastal settlement with a long history, and the game's descriptions emphasize the uneasy atmosphere that has settled over its streets. As players investigate various cases, they slowly peel back layers of secrets involving the city's past and the relationship between humans and Kururu. The nar…
