Before The Night is a cute little horror game, following its protagonist, Lisa, as she embarks on a quest to resurrect her dear friend Alice. While from the game's description you can already gather the initial premise -that is, Lisa is a pet human in an animal village-, the creepiness only begins there. As you progress through the game, more and more dark secrets of this world begin to surface. Honestly, I don't wanna type more about the story because it'd be heavy on spoilers, even for a short game as this one. And that brings me to my next point: the game isn't very long, but in this case, I'd say that's a plus. Its gameplay is simple enough that it being any longer would overstay its welcome. That's not to say it's bad or boring gameplay, but rather, that once you get the hang of it, there's not a lot of variation. You play in a sort of top down view, each level being a sort of puzzle you need to navigate by collecting various items, from weapons to stuff like keys to unlock doors; in most levels you'll also have a main objective of finding certain plants and mana pools in order to unlock the exit, although interacting with these items might have unintended results. See, the t…

A great grotesque game with a really cool art style, interesting gameplay mechanics, and disturbing story. I really enjoyed the scathing critiques of speciesism throughout. The art style makes some aspects of navigating through certain terrain a bit difficult, but overall I would recommend this game.

After the Morning Before the Night is a horror game with some minor puzzle and combat elements, but it's mostly a walking simulator with some fail conditions. It's an interesting story, but I don't know what this game is really about. In the beginning, it seemed like a pretty cut and dry allegory for eating meat in the modern industrial age, but then that fell apart and it became more of a "everyone is bad" story, but then it flipped back to, "you're the real monster". However, outside of the initial allegorical elements, the rest of the themes really don't make sense. It also doesn't feel like the "villain" of the game deservers to be shown as such a negitive character, considering that most of what they do that can be seen as evil isn't under their free will, and they literally don't understand what they're doing. I wanted to enjoy this game, but there really isn't much to like here. The story is, not confusing, but a bit confused itself as I couldn't really pull out a coherent message. The story, without a message, is just a bit straight forward and not all that interesting. The art is unique and nice, but not really worth playing the whole game for; and the music w…

i counted down the days for this game to release on switch when i saw it in the "coming soon" section, and immediately got it the day it released. i friggin love this game. played it several times. its so peak that i bought it again now that i use steam i find some parts of the game fascinating cause it makes why go "why are they like this??" when it literally reflects what we do as humans with our pets. spoilers:
(especially the hospital part)
This seemingly cute game doesn't hide a gory story, it displays it right from the beginning. The gameplay was fun enough, but not exactly what i expected it to be. The simplicity of it and the awkward story let me feeling betrayed but I can see how some people would enjoy it. It was gory but in no way scary, unfortunately.
