Black Mirror II

I really wish there was an option to give a mixed review for cases like this, instead of just positive or negative. Since the vast majority of reviews are positive, I'll go with negative, because while this game isn't a bad point-and-click adventure overall, it does have some aspects that are truly off-putting. First, the positives: Like the first installment in the series, Black Mirror II succeeds in creating a rich atmosphere – perfect for fans of cozy horror. While the first two chapters are somewhat drawn out, from the third chapter onward, [Spoiler]and with the return to Willow Creek[/spoiler] the game particularly shines in this regard. Most of the puzzles are fun and neither too difficult nor too easy, so the flow of the game is not interrupted too much. Although I think there could definitely have been more puzzles for my taste. Unfortunately, that's where the positive aspects end. Without a doubt, the worst thing about Black Mirror II is the character writing. The sequel with the slowest introduction ever Whenever I feel like replaying the original Black Mirror, I always end up skipping the second and third game. This time I was reminded why. I honestly don’t know how the developers thought such a slow introduction was a good idea. At times I even forget I’m playing a Black Mirror game. The section set in Maine is full of pointless filler that doesn’t add any real context to the story. There’s a completely unnecessary subplot and several characters who contribute nothing to the narrative going forward. The whole thing is sprinkled with references to the first game, but they mostly feel like random easter eggs. Even examining objects wasn’t enjoyable the way it usually is in a typical point and click adventure, it felt more like a chore. Every screen has what feels like 200 objects, and each one can be examined two or three times, with increasingly pointless descriptions. It almost feels like they were just trying to cram in as many jokes or lines of dialogue as possible. It’s really not fun. Genuinely so happy I bought this game. Thoroughly enjoyed my time playing it. Yeah it was pretty cringy in places, but I thought the story was engaging, the puzzles quite logical and the right level of difficulty. Looking forward to playing Black Mirror 3 now.

The second game in the series was finished two years after the first game. I completed it one month before the sudden announcement that Black Mirror III would be released. The game continues the story from Darren’s perspective, years after the incident in Black Mirror I.
