Blackout: Director’s Cut is a short retro horror adventure that uses darkness, vulnerability, and psychological uncertainty as the foundation of its experience. Developed and published by Introware Studios, the game takes place primarily within the abandoned Meyer City Prison, where the protagonist seeks shelter after attempting to leave a troubled past behind. Unfortunately, isolation provides no real escape. Something sinister inhabits the darkness, and what initially appears to be a temporary refuge gradually becomes another nightmare. Rather than constructing an expansive horror campaign, the game concentrates its ideas into a compact experience that can be completed relatively quickly while offering additional discoveries for players willing to return. "Blackout: Director's Cut" is a badly made 2D retro pixel side view "adventure" game with a weird set of themes about past lives catching up with you... but all that theme stuff is wasted with such a deplorably poor technical implementation. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. I got killed by the enemy after getting a key from the backpack and had to start all the way back at the beginning. Then got killed again by mistake and... went right back to the beginning. Wrong answer. Rating: 1/10

Enemy tends to appear before you can react quick enough, jumpscares are loud and just unpleasant instead of scary

Have to give it a negative review unfortunately as the final boss/puzzle is actually unbeatable, interesting concept, but a complete waste of time :(
