About Blackfoot Burrows

What you get:

Sidescrolling. Base building. Tower defense. Army management. Survival. So many features in such a cute little package!
Not convinced? Fine, have some more fancy words: Unlockable skins. Pixel art. Rabbits. Zombies. Skeletons. Other clichés.
There, did that do the trick? No? Fair enough. The whole "marketing your game" thing is not really my thing.

Future plans (from a dude that is bad at planning):

If this thing takes off, there are some features I'd like to add in the future. This is not a promise or a bribe, I promise.
I personally want Xbox controller support, but people keep asking for WASD movement so you can play the game one-handed.
What are you doing with that other hand, buddy?

Update 1.1
(Please note that some reviews might be from before this update)

Added a tutorial
Instead of throwing you in the deep like before, level one now features a short tutorial to get you familiar with the mechanics.

Added story mode
Intertwined with the gameplay you'll now experience a compelling story that spans across all levels.

-

Cheesy pun to end with:

May the fur be with you.
(Yeah, I'm not proud of that one.)

Blackfoot Burrows is a clone of Kingdom, the 2D retro pixel soldier defense/city builder game. This is a more simplistic conceptual attempt featuring rabbits, and the player has a little more agency by selecting which buildings go where. Like Kingdoms, the game features 2D pixel "art" instead of contemporary PC video game graphics, despite the 2018 launch date, over 2 decades since GPUs became mainstream. Resolution and controls are locked and can't be changed, so the game falls below minimum standards for PC. Kingdom is also free, and slightly better overall in quality, so my recommendation would be to try that out before this. The game is completely free (while it was once a paid product, I understand). Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a pro…

A very primitive and basic version of Kingdom. It feels like a waste because with some simple improvements, this game could be much better. A pity. Pros: - Very small installation size. - No bugs. - Pixel graphics are nice. - Sound and music are basic but fine. - Somewhat addictive. Cons: - Highly repetitive. I find myself using the same build order for every map regardless of the objective. It becomes boring fast. - The interface is minimal. This game leaves the player to figure everything out (if you have the patience). No explanation of how units work. No help screen. No tool tips. No mini map. No counter to show how many kills you have (for maps where you have to kill x enemies). Cryptic win conditions for some maps. - The overhead game map looks like it might have some strategic element, but it does absolutely nothing. You can't choose which areas to fight, it's all linear. - No way to remove a building or kill your own unit. No saves. So make one mistake (build the wrong building on a spot, or the wrong unit from the blue tent) and you have to start the map all over. - There's not much variety to the gameplay. Archers in towers are pretty much useless - they miss too often…
