Blob From Space is a retro-inspired 2D platformer that embraces the fundamentals of classic side-scrolling adventures while adding its own science fiction twist. The game follows the journey of an unusual alien blob that eventually becomes one of the Defenders of the Multiverse, providing a simple but engaging premise that gives purpose to the action. Rather than placing heavy emphasis on cinematic storytelling, the narrative unfolds through an interactive presentation that complements the gameplay without slowing its pace. The lighthearted tone and quirky protagonist immediately establish the game's personality, making it easy to appreciate its independent charm from the very beginning. The gameplay revolves around carefully designed platforming stages that steadily increase in complexity. Early levels serve as an introduction to the controls and movement mechanics before gradually demanding sharper timing, quicker reflexes, and greater precision. Every jump feels important, particularly because the game limits the number of continues available, making mistakes carry real consequences. This design encourages players to improve through practice instead of relying on endless retrie…
https://youtu.be/rA-eTrjKuC0 Incomplete support for controllers, level design lacking guidance, and brutal checkpoints make for an overall weak platformer.
I'm a bit torn. Blob From Space seems like a quite charming little platformer, the dev, Jos, seems to be still quite passionate about this little project, after all these years, as he's still active on the forums, reacting on every little question but... It definitely lacks content. There's only 8 levels total that are actually quite easy to learn and master - I was ready to rage, as promised on the store page and did not experience it, sadly. Shame. Very grindy achievements also somewhat promised more than the game managed to deliver. I guess that Jos had much bigger abitions for this game but, as it's one of his first commercial projects, simply time and skill were against him at the time. Wasted potential, that's what I can call this game. That all being said, I'm going to give it a thumbs up as I'd like to ecourage more fun game from Jos. Let's unlock this potential someday!
