✦ AI summary

Block Dungeon is a simple, retro-styled roguelite dungeon crawler that some players find enjoyable as a casual timekiller with basic block-breaking and loot-collecting mechanics. However, the game suffers from significant progression issues—grinding becomes tedious and unrewarding with poorly balanced upgrades, limited variety in gameplay and gear, and difficulty spikes that outpace character advancement, leaving little strategic depth or long-term engagement.

Block Dungeon is another GameMaker Studio asset/template flip from Gnelf, dumped on Steam as a cash grab. It's a basic 2D retro pixel "dungeon" themed turn based tile bashing "Roguelite" (roguelite is a codeword for developers who aren't good enough to develop their own content so they use procgen instead). Taking this construction kit asset/template flip seriously as a game, there's a lot of problems. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the game display in fullscreen, it only runs in a window. The game features no p…

Just a lot of mindless grinding with little progression. The game needs more strategy or variety of play.

Fun timekiller. Not one of the best roguelites out there, but it is an enjoyable game. You break blocks, some containing chests or enemies(which you then have to kill, as all enemies that you have revealed by breaking their block must be killed before you can descend to the next level), most containing nothing, until you find the exit to the current floor underneath one of the blocks. There are various weapons, armor, potions, etc to collect which will help you on your quest to reach the exit. The enemies get stronger the farther you go, so findinding stronger weapons and armor is imperative.

The game is pretty fun but at a certain threshold it gets pretty grindy, I spent a fair bit of time getting 5000 gold to upgrade my health points which I thought would double, because that seems like a reasonable progression but it only gives you 10 extra health points which isn't much once you get to dungeon 10 in which most enemies deal double digit damage.

its cool looking game but there isnt really much to do, theres no level up system and the dungeons get harder, only way to go forward is to upgrade your gear, you can only buy 'mystery boxes' for gear and even if you spend the 3000 gold (the rarest and most expensive box) you dont get anything special, i got the same armor plate that i had found previosly on dungeon level 2, theres not really much to do after u got the best armor as theres no leveling up or anything
