About Blood will be Spilled
Blood will be Spilled is a story focused spaghetti western platformer with tactical turn-based combat, taking place in a completely hand drawn harsh world inhabited by insects.
You follow the story of Jack - a mosquito bounty hunter, on his path of revenge. Soon however, he finds himself neck-deep in a vicious scheme that is far more than he bargained for. Heavily outgunned and outnumbered, Jack will need help from a few rather unusual allies to even the odds. In the land with no laws, from deserted anthills and dusty mines, through badland battlefields to treacherous swamps, he's on a hunt for the Calaveras gang. And they are wanted alive...or dead.
- Epic adventure of blood and revenge, featuring guns, explosives, trains and insects (with even more guns!)
- With a narrator, accompanying you through the story (voiced by Tim Simmons)
- Jack is voiced by legendary Elias Toufexis (Adam Jensen from DeusEx)
- Outstanding cast of more than 15 fully voiced and rather peculiar characters
- Fully hand drawn visuals in a distinct comic book style
- Classic side-scrolling action in a charming handcrafted world of “the Wild West with an insect twist”
- Tactical turn-based shoot-outs - always outgunned, use every advantage and dirty trick to get an edge over your enemies: Hide behind covers, exploit the environment, suck the blood of your enemies and make sure that you're the last bug standing
- Use 12 active and 3 passive abilities in 3 different paths - The Good, The Bad or The Ugly, and dispose of your enemies with a ricochet, a shotgun or a shovel
- Pack 7 magnificent revolvers, inspired by western classics, that'll fill your enemies with enough lead they would probably die of poisoning if only the shots didn't kill them first
- Battle 9 types of enemies - from ferocious mites, nasty fly-banditos, aggressive wasp-sharpshooters to crooked cockroach brawlers and explosive bugs
- Face 4 sinister gang leaders with bounties on their heads - will you drag them back to town alive or dead?
- Scattered secrets and hidden collectibles for explorers and treasure hunters to find
- Beautiful acoustic soundtrack that pays tribute to the old classics of the genre

A terrific looking and sounding game, with nice narrative that is (unfortunately) marred severely by bugs (and by this I don't mean "insects", which the characters in Blood Will Be Spilled are). I cannot fathom why the devs didn't try harder to fix the game and "tighten up the screws" so to speak, but it certainly shows potential for some future installments to improve upon already great (yet, again, bugged) formula of light platforming and neat turn-based combat. The visuals are 10/10, very nicely drawn and conceptualized. The world, albeit not much explained in-game, is just brimming with untapped potential (primarily due to this game being a work of just a handful of developers - guess they were trying to punch above their weight, and that this is why the game is a flawed gem). Since the main programmer left the team (and rightly so, judging by how incompetent he coded the game), the devs are currently unable to move forward with a sequel, despite there being an after-credits cliffhanger that opens path for making one. I hereby put a positive review, in good faith that Doublequote Studio will make a sequel down the line, and make a great successor to this ambitious (yet flawed…6 found this helpful
Blood will be Spilled is a narrative-focused platforming adventure developed and published by Doublequote Studio that combines tactical turn-based combat, western storytelling, exploration, and comic-inspired presentation into a distinctive experience that stands apart from traditional indie action titles. Built around a frontier world populated entirely by insects, the game embraces classic western influences while introducing enough originality through its setting and gameplay systems to create an identity entirely its own. What begins as a revenge story slowly develops into something larger, blending personal conflict with larger dangers hidden beneath a harsh and lawless frontier. The game follows Jack, a mosquito bounty hunter driven by vengeance and survival in a dangerous world where violence and betrayal shape daily life. His pursuit of justice quickly evolves into a far more complicated journey involving criminal factions, dangerous enemies, and hidden truths spread across hostile territories. The narrative structure benefits heavily from strong pacing because it slowly reveals larger conflicts without abandoning the personal motivations driving the protagonist forward. …2 found this helpful
Fun 7 hour experience with tactical combat and puzzles, Typical western cowboy story that manages to be unique and uses the bug aesthetic to its advantage. Only issue was there is a bug if you activate the final bosses second form while you still have an extra attack the game will freeze.2 found this helpful
Ah, yes, at every point, this game is strong enough to make it a walk through. a few issues in it but It's an indie game, so you should understand that.1 found this helpful
