About Bloodshots

Welcome to Bloodshots

Overview:
Immerse yourself in the chilling atmosphere of Bloodshots, set in the year 2010 within the ominous walls of the Abderc biochemical laboratory in Texas, United States. Unveil the events that led the place to be infested with hostile mutants.

Storyline:
Venture into the aftermath of twisted experiments that claimed the lives of Abderc's workers. As Joseph Alexander Blackwell, one of the few survivors, your mission is to navigate the depths of the facility to save your dying daughter from an imminent demise.

Gameplay Features:

Survival Horror Elements: Embrace the essence of classic survival horror games as you navigate through a dark and foreboding environment, where danger lurks around every corner. Additionally, challenge yourself by limiting your combat options to fire weapons only, intensifying the suspense and creating a uniquely gripping experience.

Resource Management: Face the challenge of sustaining vitality using only syringes filled with blood. Every decision matters, as you push the boundaries of desperation, utilizing your blood as raw material for ammunition production.

Narrative-driven Choices: Reconstruct the events through the reading of notes that unveil crucial details about what happened in the Abderc laboratory.

somewhat top down free game with an interesting mechanic that you sell health for ammo and to update the map. Some of the monsters are zombie like, some are weird spiderlings that spit at you. its a blend of do you kill everything and need to keep spamming through all your health vials to keep your ammo stocked up, or do you run past things and through doors into the next sections to save your health and ammo? After dying a few times to various things we started leaning into the second as health packs don’t respawn if you pick them up and while your ammo stays whatever it was when you found the latest piece of lore that caused a game save, all the friendos do respawn again. im sure you could purge a chunk of your freshly respawned healthbar to top up the ammo but is it worth it when theres no health kits for a while? Its an interesting gamble. And while the game overall does have a few faults and issues, like the “hit the button, run to the door” mechanic being an almost hilariously tight window and the mouse aiming being a bit wobbly at times, it’s a free game. Play it, give feedback and hopefully its makers use this strong start to make better games, but for free? You really cant…

I'm mostly recommending this for the sole fact that it is a student project and was free, if it had been released by more experienced devs or had a price tag attached then things would be different. Bloodshots is a case of a fantastic concept executed poorly. The combat, visuals and sound design are all pretty solid, and this was enough of a foundation to ensure I mostly enjoyed my 30 minutes spent playing. However everything else was lacking, from the exceptionally poor voice "acting" (although I do respect the fact that it was clearly someone with English as a second, or maybe even third language) which provided line delivery more wooden than my desk, to the uninteresting and generic story, to the often bad level design. Lots of pointless rooms that largely look the same, timed doors for no reason and awful rooms filled with poison that saps your energy, then your health once your energy runs out. It goes really quickly too. The timed doors I can tolerate, however the poison rooms do nothing to improve the game and at one point actively detract from it. There is one such room where one seems to need to solve a puzzle, but the effect of the poison doesn't pause while interacti…

A pretty good top-down Metroidvania-like with Resident Evil inspiration. Got about an hour of fun our of it. Some models were a little rough around the edges but still worth a chill playthrough. 6/10
