A great game made by some great folks! GOTY, 11/10!

"ButtonMash" is a simple but really mediocre 2D retro platformer with somewhat janky controls and hitboxing, and a rather average "meta" theme about being a game controller. Which is funny because this is on PC so most gamers are using keyboard and mouse. Did they not know that before they designed the game? A bit of research goes a long way. Anyway, there's a swinging mechanism and wall jumping and some other more modern platformer stuff but the overall quality is very very low, which undoubtedly lead to the dead silent public reception. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs to pretend they're mobile phones or Commodore 64s. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game.
