VANQUISH THE NIGHTMARE, RESTORE THE DREAM

Winner of the Reboot Develop "Visual Excellence" award. Winner at the 2021 WN Dev Contest as chosen by Epic Games. Bygone Dreams is a high fantasy action adventure with RPG elements set in a surreal dream world. The dream land of Lume, under the protection of its matron deity, is being threatened by a terrible Nightmare. Embodying the spirit known as Wa, you are the world's last hope for survival. To aid you in your quest, you must seek out the world's Guardians - powerful creatures worshiped and revered in times long before the corruption seeped in. However, the task ahead is anything but easy, as the Guardians themselves succumbed to the Nightmare.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's attractive visuals, compelling setting, and well-designed characters, with some finding good value in the free offering. However, recurring complaints center on poor gameplay mechanics, controller binding issues that make the game difficult to play with a controller despite claims otherwise, crashes, and frustration with the demo's limited progression that doesn't carry over to the full game.

The game has beautiful graphics. The setting is awesome. The characters are top notch. Those costumes and masks. I'm thrilled. And all this for free. Bingo!

graphics are ok but gameplay is wretched

I would recommend just trying the full game and playing it for the trial period instead of doing this extended demo. I had to struggle through this and my progress was ripped from me when all was said and done. It's not a full game and that is false advertising.

Claims to be made with use of a controller in mind, but you are unable to bind all of the necessary things to make using only a controller possible. One example is the bow you get at the start doesn't fire unless you go bind it to something and whatever you bind it to it removes the ability to perform the other action. i think the aim mechanic was meant to circumvent this, but it doesn't work. There is also no way of resetting the binds back to default, so if you rebind the inventory button it's gone forever. looking pretty doesn't make up for a lack of mechanical polish. Other than that it's a pretty generic old-school-feeling hack-n-slash.
