Calice

I want to like this game, but.... I am visually severely impaired, so it's pretty discouraging to see how small the text on cards are, even after you click to magnify the text. After trying to play the game for just under an hour, I have strained eyes and a headache, and I'm using a magnification tool. It's shocking to me to see that there's only a resolution option that barely seems to do anything to ease this strain. I want to like this game, but the physical discomfort is making this hard for me. This is especially sad when this game has so much going for it, like a unique card system and an amazing art style. On top of this, I don't think the devs listen to feedback, or at the very least I haven't noticed a sign of this, at least on steam. I refrained to give a bad review, but after a week of silence, I decided to post this review and ask for a refund on this game. As it stands, I can't recommend this game, and I won't. I might change my mind (and this review) if the developer seems to do anything about this. And I truly think this is a shame, because I really do want to like this game. It just can't be a health concern.

Callous? Cialis? I'm not sure how to pronounce it but it doesn't really matter. I'd give this one a neutral rating, if I could. It's a Slay the Spire-like that has some good ideas along with some issues. One of the most interesting aspects is that you have two decks of cards. "Combine" cards are your typical deckbuilder cards that are used for attacking, defending, buffs, debuffs, effects, etc. Then you also have "number" cards which are just trump cards valued 1-10. At the start of each turn you draw a hand of combine cards and a hand of number cards. Whenever you play a combine card, you have to combine it with one or more number cards. These both act as a check (insert a number card lower than 3, insert 3 number cards adding up to 10, etc) and as a power modifier (deal damage equal to the product of both number cards, gain shields equal to the number card, etc). This adds an extra level of decision making that feels pretty good although it does slow the game down a little bit. One of the issues I have is that there aren't a lot of mechanics to draw cards, which makes a LOT of the cards in this game absolute junk. I'm going to Calice! Cute and charming artstyle and fun math-heavy gameplay. I wouldn't mind if the gameplay were even MORE math-heavy. It's true to the lore (i.e. Lewis Carroll's field of specialization). Lack of keyboard shortcuts makes playing a bit laborious, but otherwise a great roguelike. Difficult mode is actually difficult.

Overall, I would say that Calice is good; however, I am sad to say that that comes with a pretty heavy asterisk. That being said, if you are a fan of games like Slay the Spire, it might be worth grabbing on sale. [i]Also, as an important note, I did not feel like this was communicated clearly enough, but if you want to get the full experience of the game, you will have to play on the highest difficulty, or else you will not get the last zone.[/i] Mechanically, I found Calice to be interesting and fun while at the same time being flawed, clearly lacking in depth, and at times confusing. It plays like many games in this genre, but you have two sets of cards: number cards and the cards you combine those numbers with to actually do things like attacking, giving yourself defense to resist attacks, or doing one of many utility actions. It may sound tedious to have to use cards to then use cards that actually do something, but it came very naturally and was a unique twist that I haven’t seen before, which I found to be a lot of fun when it came to building your deck. The game it self has a very small text and i was quite struggling at first when finding the language but i've find it eventually and the game it self is very friendly and fun i wish if it has a multi player systems so whenever someone is finishing the game or already discovered all of the in game content there is nothing more to do other than leaving the game or comeback at it for a nostalgic experience but other than that i love this game the desing is cute and friendly thx for making this game. New review i just finished the game and it only took me 2 hours to finish the story mode it was fun but it was too short and i don't want to say the game is expensive for a 2 hours game but i got some happiness while playing it at least no idea if the developer will make another game of calice frenchaise but thank you for making such a nice and beautiful game :D

To short honestly. Or maby its just me. Maby shoud be a endless mode? You can kinda break the balance by simply removing most cards and getting a artifact that let you draw 3 more number cards (all your number cards if you remove as meny as you can) and then getting an artifact sac 5 hp(or shield) to draw card. Only have high value cards = win.
