I think over the years a lot of people have wondered about what kind of game Princess Maker 2 would be if it hadn't been made by people who belonged on a watchlist somewhere. Like was that specific nonce-adjacent dynamic somehow part of what makes PM2 so uniquely special and lovely? Anyway, I am happy to report that this game doesn't answer any of those questions, because it is every bit of troubling in basically the same ways and it is also alas, very good.

The art is so cute and gorgeous! Feels like playing a strategy board game. You need to plan your day and energy carefully. The plot goes whimsical a lot. A very cute slice-of-life simulator.

This game is surprisingly good for what it is. The story's a bit cliched, but it's layered in such a way that richly rewards your next playthrough. You can't experience the full story on a single playthrough, but there's a lot you can, and more of the story opens up on your second and even third playthroughs. 10/10, would read the forbidden book again.
