Unfortunately, the first 20 minutes is not amazingly engaging and has some serious bugs. There is also no autosave, and getting your brains blown out on a dock is very easy to accomplish. Indie pirate game with some appeal but not much more. Its mechanics are wonky and generally basic. Fair enough, the first hour was utterly absurd and one of the reasons why I gave it a thumb up. When the only two quests on the first island only netted me a pittance, I looked to the most wanted board in search of a nice reward. I got on my raft and headed in the direction of the compass. I finally saw two pirate ships on the horizon after several minutes on the wide blue sea. Once there, I grabbed the gun, killed the helmsman, and stopped the ship from leaving. The rest of the group was just standing there when I took them out one by one. That’s how I got my first ship. You won't be awed by art. Right now, low-poly visuals are all the rage among independent developers, so it's hardly surprising that Captain! conforms to this trend. The fact that it's impossible to determine which assets are unique or generic, if any, is the giant elephant in the room.
