Thousands of retro 2D platformers are infesting Steam, and "CatPunk" is just more pollution in a crowded market of terrible games. There are over 17,000 platformers on Steam, literally thousands (you can go see for yourself if you search for the platformer tag on the store, I'm not kidding). And this is far from being one of the best of those. You control an anthropomorphic steampunk cat and do some platforming. Why? I don't think it matters. I think this was a student project based on the surprisingly tolerable graphics, combined with a simple game premise and zero polish... that's pretty much the hallmark of a DigiPen/SMU type project. This has all those same qualities, and whether it's a student project or not, what matters is what this represents for gamers and the answer, just like a student project, is not much. Because this is unpolished, unfinished, and short in scope to begin with even if it had been completed. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. broken lol, controller directions are backwards if used, [VSM] error for one pass projection max lights overflow. concept not proven, idk why this was dumped onto steam
Honestly I'm not sure what this game is, like if its a student project or a foray into game development, but this is pretty neat and I can tell some serious effort went into this. If you, the developer ever read this, you need to be able to control your movement a little in the air. If you misjudge your velocity when you make your jumps its impossible to correct and you die. If it weren't for this, this would actually be a pretty fun little experience,. As it is however, it's a little too frustrating. Also if you run our of gas canisters you basically lose instantly. Maybe it should be a meter that you can fill with the canisters and it very slowly recharges? Good work bro, keep it up. This is p neat.
Made me want to kill myself for a stupid ass achievement. Would Recommend.
