To start off there are no premium characters/tanks that require a purchase. Everything in game can be earned via progression. Not only that, but you start out with 3 really solid tanks for free. These tanks actually frequently see themselves on the leaderboards too so don't sell them short just because they are given for free. They also give you 15% money and XP bonus just for playing with friends in a squad. It's basically an arcade style tank game that combines hero shooter mechanics with world of tanks damage model. The monetization is cosmetic only. The seasons are provided as is without requiring buy in. Paying for "premium" only allows you to unlock things out of order. You can still buy things from the previous season so there is no risk of missing out. As far as mechanics, it's pretty solid. The balance isn't bad at all and I find it fairly rewarding. I usually don't like F2P games, but this is the exception. The progression isn't lightning quick, but it isn't terribly slow either.
