Chicken Invaders 1

I find it difficult to recommend this remake. It's not really a remake of Chicken Invaders 1, rather, it's just Chicken Invaders Universe using the same level set as the original game. Same thing with the "remakes" of CI2, 3, and 4. CI5 gets somewhat of a pass because of how similar it already is to Universe, but the rest? They're honestly not really remakes, you're just playing Universe again but you're playing a level pack from the old games. None of these games were actually, genuinely, faithfully recreated. They didn't recreate original weapon behavior and design, such as CI2's Neutron Gun or Laser Cannon. Even the Ion Blaster which is mostly the same in each game, wasn't faithfully recreated either. They didn't even recreate the unlocks each game had. In every single one of them, all of the weapons are the same, all of the unlocks are the same, all of the behavior and style and feel of the game, it's literally just Chicken Invaders Universe. It's like a meme. "Oops, all CIU!", except it's literal here. All sense of progression and growth is lost, you don't get to experience the games steadily growing and becoming more refined. The definitive and best way to play the 1999 classic Chicken Invaders that started this glorious saga. It contains: - the original 1999 game that doesn't work correctly on modern systems, but it's good that it's included. - the 2023 remake of the original which is the 1999 code wrapped in a more modern engine with quality of life improvements. It looks and feels like the original game, has the same weird 26fps framerate and runs without issues on modern systems. This is the version you need to play if you are experiencing this series for the first time! - the most recent remake using the latest Chicken Invaders Universe engine. It's fine, but lacks the magic of the original. This was one of my favorite childhood games almost 30 years ago and it aged like a fine wine.

In this game, you get to play the same 10 waves from the original 1999 game over and over, but on the new engine they used for their quasi-MMO and some QoL changes / future game additions. This should have been free. The replay value is insanely low, you are only going to play through all the 6 difficulties (that you have to buy) if you are a degenerate achievement hunter. Granted its not a long time but the monotony kicks in very early on.
