About [Chilla's Art] Okaeri | おかえり
Okaeri is a Japanese horror game about a middle school girl and her mother who recently moved to a new house.
It's 6:00 pm, coming back home expecting a welcome from your mom, instead, she finds unexpected things happening before her eyes.
The game is inspired by short omniverse Japanese horror films.

Key Features:
Immersive experience: An atmospheric photo-realistic graphics intensifies the horror experience. The minimalistic design makes the player fully immersed in the ambiance.
VHS film aesthetic: VHS aesthetic emulates look and feel of CRT screens including phosphor screen trail and bleeding, VHS tape noise, interlacing, and jitter in the analog video signal adding extra immersion to the horror experience.
A short narrative exploration: An exploration heavily focused on ambiance and narrative. Collect pieces of the past and present to find out what's going on from the protagonist's perspective with native Japanese voice acting which enhances the player's experience. People who love games like Gone Home and The First Tree might love this part of the game. The testers played for about 20-40min.
Gameplay: This game is played primarily like a "walking simulator."
Psychological horror: You are alone, but feels like someone is watching you. Keep going and you'll find out.

✦ AI summary
Players appreciate Okaeri's atmospheric horror approach and unsettling psychological tension, but criticize its brevity, vague environmental design that makes progression confusing, and a thin story with a rushed ending that lacks depth. While some enjoyed it as a short experience, others felt disappointed by the limited narrative content and wished for more substantial storytelling or a sequel to expand on the concept.
Slow paced, very short game. Has ambiance. Played twice.
Wished it had a second ending , the game was short but it did convey what it wants , though i still feel like the ending felt a bit rushed.
short and to the point. eerie and brutal. Not for the faint of heart.
More of an itch.io game Very simple loop, can see its their earlier games. Audio/SFX 100/10. No cheap jumpscares, pure atmosphere and vibes Story is kind of messed up, especially towards the end. Digged the art style but played without the grain towards the end because I couldn't make anything out. Actually, story is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bruh, damn. Worth the 2 quid maybe? Wouldnt pay for it considering how short it is but I bought the entire chillas art as a bundle and am going through them. Still would play. Buy if its like 1 quid. PC did freeze twice and had to start over but no save system but its a short game so it is what it is
disappointing
8.5/10 game! Great short game, though the lack of clear environmental clues makes progression kinda easily get us lost, no jumpscares, though anticipated, yet overall an amazing game!
