About CONCLUSE

✦ AI summary

You play as Michael Benson searching for your missing wife in the eerie town of Hell, New England, solving puzzles and uncovering secrets across a fog-shrouded landscape. Blending psychological horror with a gripping mystery narrative, this PS1-style game prioritizes atmosphere and storytelling over cheap scares, with stellar voice acting and retro aesthetics anchoring an unsettling exploration of reality versus delusion.

You won't find your now typical jump scares here; there is something deeper at work, something which begins to bridge the gap of what is real and what isn't.

Story

After three long years of searching for his missing wife, Carolyn, Michael Benson is at his wit's end. Just as he is about to throw in the towel and end his search, he receives an anonymous tip on his answering machine. The caller claims to have seen Carolyn in 'Hell', a strangely named town in the boondocks of New England. With little else to go on, Michael sets out for 'Hell', could his wife really be there?

Concluse is actually my favorite game I've ever played on PC. As someone who grew up watching indi horror game playthroughs most of my teenage years, but was always too afraid to play them myself, I feel that Concluse is the perfect balance of terrifying atmosphere, but low-stakes game play. While it does walk the line of a walking simulator, the graphics quality and ambiance are truly chef's kiss. I've played this game a few times and am so excited for the second one. If you like slower games with some good spooks, but keep your pants clean, this is the game for you!

A man with a lost wife, travelling to a forsaken town to find her. Sounds familiar, right? Not really - the man is quite sane, his wife really is lost, and there's a very good reason why the town is forsaken. Take a dark, disturbing journey with Michael Benson as he searches for his beloved wife Carolyn in the abandoned town of Cordova after an unexpected intersection with another world halts what should've been a simple light rail trip to the nearby Hell, New England. Now you must puzzle your way through the accursed town, seemingly this way simply by virtue of being next to Hell, so you can finally get to your actual destination. While the puzzles, at times, can get a bit obtuse or referrential on notes you can't easily access once you've read them, they otherwise are logical, make sense, and are quite challenging. It also doesn't help there aren't any subtitles for the low-res textures, meaning if you don't have good enough eyesight to read them, you may have to resort to a guide to get the information they contain - which is a shame. Overall, a great horror adventure with some unnecessarily-difficult parts. Combined with the fact all you get is free des…

I think my playtime could have been lower if the game's puzzles and riddles actually made sense sometimes and don't leave me completely bored out of my mind while I slog through the whole game in a snails pace for some reason. But at least it's free, so if you want to give it a try then do so... just know that this game is painfully annoying most of the time, and the story is nonsensical and looks and sounds like a silent hill rip off but crappy.

It's a game with dark, gritty graphics, but there isn't much gameplay. It's more of a walking simulator. 7/10 More weird game: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45665580 And part 2: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/46219602
