Cross Soul

"Cross Soul" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This platformer is excessively bad, it was made with the no-code construction kit, "Clickteam Fusion", that anyone (including people unqualified) can make garbage games. This platformer features a little anime girl (why are all these anime fan club amateur developers so obsessed with little girls???) doing some godawfully bad platformer brawling. Truly this is one of the worst of all the platformers. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. Despite not being in Early Access this is apparently incomplete, and it's definitely not polished, but we've already established the use of ClickTeam Fusion means the "developer" here has no idea how to develop games. it's all a waste of time, the art and opening music attracted me first. The story is enigmatic and confusing, the game play is repetitive and boring, most of the items in the inventory are useless, so are the alchemy (cooking) and weapon upgrading system.

A very cute game, really. The graphics are lovely and it's an interesting side scrolling game. A bit rough around the edges at the moment (some feedback about hits would be nice), but it is being worked on. The change to ancient Egypt is quite a good idea.
