6/10
I enjoyed all the Mercenaries Saga games, so I guess it's no surprise that I like this as well. Nice little strategy RPG that doesn't really innovate, but is still rather enjoyable due to depth & group customization level.
Pros:
- Between gear, subclasses, training, strategies, stats, deities, skills, etc, the game has a great amount of depth. Definitely the game's greatest strength by far - There are tons of overpowered combos to discover and almost limitless party combos since you eventually get 6-7 party members - You can set a "Strategy" at the start of a fight, which affects everyone on your team with bonuses and possibly penalties. I *love* this because I always build my entire group around a strategy, so this allows me to really lean into that - Units get xp at the end of a fight. Helps normalize xp for healers and such who aren't attacking often - Great class list, including Time Mage (Clocker, lol), Ninja, Bard, Necromancer, and many others. Alchemist is pretty unusual to see, and is really fun - Some levels are actually somewhat challenging
Mehs:
- The whole "tails" thing is borderline gross. Would almost feel like a "fur…

The translation is sooooo bad! It ruins the game for me. The game seems like it would be fun but I cant play an RPG that speaks gibberish. If someone did a translation patch for this game it would jump from a 4 out of ten to an 8 out of 10.

Honestly. The most well-made tactical rpg that I've played. I keep playing other games of the same genre (Fire Emblem, etc) and saying "Man. I wish that this had the quality of life features and settings that cross tails does."

It's a good game. Definitely an improvement on the "Mercenaries" series in just about all respects. I followed it for a while, and recommend it based on the overall gameplay- the combat is deep, allowing for rich builds and tactics, thanks to a 3-way class system and an equipment modification system. The campaign has a branch, and to get the best ending you need to replay it. I haven't done so (yet, at least), but might, some day. There's set story battles which tend to add another "skirmish" style battle, each of which can be played for rewards or grinding purposes. Where the game is most lacking is the story, particularly the dialogue. "Wanna" and "gonna" sound weird coming from the mouths of clan chiefs. Some of the dialogue is just incorrect, although it's usually clear what they wanted the meaning to be, based on the context. I also think the whole "furry" thing was a miss. It didn't add anything to the story to have the characters be animalistic- some of them could pass as human. The issue is that it certainly doesn't have enough fan-service to offer the furry crowd, and those that are more hesitant of furry adjacent content probably gave it a pass after a surface gla…
