Vibrant cast of 6 unique champions - Pick from six unique champions from the desert, grassland, and tundra kingdom. Discover their unique personalities through their voice acting.
Use Your Specials to Turn the Tide of Battle - Each faction gives their champion a unique special ability. Spawn an ally from thin air to defend yourself as a tundra champion. Move an extra turn to get a kill on a faraway enemy as a grass champion. Teleport yourself out of harms way as a desert champion.

Units

Wide Array of 8 Different Units - Spawn from a selection of 8 different units on the ground and in the air! Utilize their strengths and weaknesses to gain an edge in combat.

Strategy

Position Your Units on Advantageous Terrains - Head into the mountains to escape an assassin. Use the cover of the forests to defend yourself from attacks.
Give your units a boost - Capture Artifacts of Power and Key Locations to give yourself and your units a strategic edge. Artifacts of Power give buffs to the unit that captures it for as long as they live. Key Locations give entire team-wide buffs to whichever team holds the location.

About

Tails of War was created by a 45 person multidisciplinary team over two semesters at the University of Michigan's WolverineSoft Studio, a student games studio undertaking semester-long projects. It is an educational case study of Wargroove, and takes inspiration from its game mechanics as well as other games in the genre. Work on this project took place between May 2023 to January 2024.

4/10 TBS in the style of Wargroove and Advanced Tactics TLDR: seems to be a learning project of some students. While the online multiplayer must have been hell to implement, the game doesn't even get to that stage and fails in basic things: clumsy controls and ugly looks. I hope somebody learned something making this. There is a lot of work gone into the game but it's all half-baked, rough and uneven. For an actual release, one needs to playtest things and try to get artistic unity even if there are many people involved. Good: - free - cute idea to have cats as characters, some UI elements have nice imaginative pieces that are cat-themed - overall, Wargroove-like combat system: you capture bases to produce about a dozen unit types that move on a grid So-so: - there are voice-overs when you select or give orders to units but they are recorded unprofessionally. The quality of the sound is low, and it's annoying. Also, the voices just aren't varied enough. In the 1st tutorial mission, I was hearing the same 2 phrases over and over when selecting the leader character Bad: - clunky controls. I'm not sure if it's a bug but I had to often click twice on characters to select them. No w…
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
This is a simple turn based tactical strategy game with no players, because it was designed for furries, and apparently could be a student project instead of being a fully, properly developed game. The idea is that you do turn based tactical battles with a handful of units on a square grid. You can improve your chances of winning by capturing artifacts, but let's face it, nobody plays this because it's junk. It's a dead PvP game, and it's time for us to have a post-mortem to see some of the reasons this failed. Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. There's fierce competition in the PvP game arena... and I'm not referring to players fighting other players. There's thousands of PvP-only games but only a tiny handful of them are su…

It's not an awful game, but it seems a bit broken. If I want to pause during my turn to look up specifics on a character when I have a timer on during single player, the timer will keep going and even end my turn early. If there is no timer, the AI will not even move the character and it will stay stuck on "enemy turn". I haven't even been able to finish a tutorial game because it will randomly stay stuck on "enemy turn" as well. I do enjoy the cute characters and the premise of the game, but a successful game only happens after at least 2 "broken" plays where I will have to exit out the match.
