5/10. There are some good ideas, but feels like there isn't enough gameplay for the number of levels there are. The hero unit feels underpowered. It's dangerous to fight enemies head on, as a few simultaneous hits from a group of enemies will kill you. It's also much more efficient to spawn units than to spend energy to fight yourself, which devolves into a boring loop of spawn one unit, end turn, repeat. This starts being apparent by the time you get to the icy biome. Maybe separating unit spawning energy from hero energy could have been a good solution to encourage spawning and fighting. I wish there were spells to use on the battlefield, or there were at least no limits to how you spend your energy. Some examples: 1. Spawn soldier, walk, then shoot arrow. 2. Walk as much as you want as long as you have energy, in order to get to the pesky mages. Otherwise, there is really no way to deal with them before they get close to your defences. A few nitpicks: 1. Enemy blizzard spell animation takes too long, locking you out of doing anything. 2. You run out of things to spend gold on before the game ends, even without repeating levels.
It's a very simple defend the castle game but quite enjoyable. It's not very long and there's not a lot of replayability to it so don't expect to waste more than 2 to 3 hours on it.
As a old-timer gamer, I do enjoy from time to time a simple 2D good tower defense game. The kicker? It has some sophistication on it's combat structure that I couldn't see back then. A simple, fun and honest indie game. For it's price it is a steal. TIP: Action Points from Phoebe = CASH, make her raise that sword up and let the team do the dirty work.
Little tower defence/turn based strategy. Liked it a lot!
Is that a tower defense game? Is it a turn-based tactics game? Or just a simplistic mix between those two genres? Yep, "Crystal Fortress" is a mix. Not a bad one, even if a bit too simple - technically speaking, you have only your hero, two types of units and one tower in your arsenal. Strangely enough, you don't need much more to stop the enemy waves, and the game is fun without being too easy/hard. So yeah, give it a try, i have played and reviewed way worse TD games :) Gameplay video: https://youtu.be/SOUus38BzGE
It was worth $5 to me. I enjoyed it and finished in under three hours.
