Cubiques 2

Left a positive review for the first instalment, came here for the second. I reviewed the former two years ago and I don't precisely remember what it was all about, anyways this one came out just one month after the first one and.. it seems quite similar. In order to complete the game, if you follow some kind of guide you'll get everything within 30-40 minutes, every achievement and every level. But let's talk about it within another perspective. It's clearly an indie game - minimalistic, made with the Unity engine and with few assets. It features 70 different levels and it's all painted in shades of grey, the only controls you'll need will be R to restart and the non-remappable directional keys. The goal of the whole game - which needs to be played fullscreen since it gets too pixelated and crappy if played windowed - is to move at the same time the white cubes on the black 3D tiles on the screen - in order to position them on the white platforms. It's all there, yeah. I recall here and re-write my original thought on Cubiques 1 - it's too pricy for its content, but it's a good game to get on sale. [h1][b]CUBIQUES 2 * 6/10[/b][/h1] Sequel to CUBIQUES, shares the assets, cubes and tiles, but this time gets darker, way more complicated and multitasking with a more challenging purpose. [h1][i]INTRO & GAMEPLAY. What is CUBIQUES 2 about And how does it work?[/i][/h1] I was expecting more puzzles and levels following the first chapter's style, but in this sequel you immediately understand that number 2 is not referred to a second game, but it hints to the fact that now you move two cubes. And more. In the first game you move a cube but now you move more cubes at once. Each direction command moves all cubes simultaneously and you have to take all these cubes on white tiles. Things will get more complicated as grey temporary tiles start to appear. Way more complicated when teleport tiles will appear as well. Minimalist puzzle games are quickly becoming something I enjoy. Especially when I feel challenged, but I don’t get stuck for hours on one puzzle. While Cubiques 2 may be much shorter than its 70 levels would indicate, I can say that I actually had fun and felt like I was less-terrible at puzzle games than I normally am. [h1]Actually Finishing a Puzzle Game[/h1] I may not have been doing this curation thing long, but prior to it I rarely played a dedicated puzzle game outside of the Portal series. I’ve gotten offered a fair number since then and this may be the first time I’ve ever actually finished one. Cubiques 2 has a very familiar but still quite compelling set of mechanics that have you rolling cubes around in effort to get them in to a designated position. Every puzzle feels as though it could be completed in seconds if you can find the solution and I believe that’s partly the goal since each level has a “solved” timer that you can see from the menu. However, in my case I would regularly alternate between puzzles I’d immediately see the solution to and puzzles I’d get stuck on for five or ten minutes. Certainly not the best puzzle game out there, but as one that enjoys almost every puzzle game out there, it's certainly worth a few bucks(perhaps not the full $5).

Short and sweet minimalistic puzzle game. Same style as the first, significantly different puzzle mechanic, again with enough levels to explore it pretty well. I found a few of the levels quite challenging, but it still took under 2 hours to complete. If that's worth the money to and you like the look of it, I recommend it.
