CULT OF FLIES

It all begins with the death of your grandmother, who allegedly took her own life. After the funeral, you return to the family home and go to sleep. The rest does not last long, as you are awakened by the sound of a gramophone playing downstairs. Soon after, you hear something moving in your grandmother’s room, and then the lights go out. First, the visual design deserves mention. The game uses a grainy, monochromatic sepia filter that makes it feel as though it came from the last century, reminiscent of an arthouse film. However, the overall quality and atmosphere depend heavily on the strength of your hardware. Despite the seemingly undemanding visuals, the optimization is quite poor. On the lowest preset settings, most of the detail disappears and the atmosphere suffers, with no shadows and lighting that is far too bright. On higher settings, the game struggles with stuttering and noticeable frame rate spikes, especially when looking in certain directions. Good foundation but suffers from being dark as hell plus it suffers from the indie game curse of gutting basic features. For example this game has no pause menu so you can't change the brightness once you start playing the game unless you want to start over and watch the unskipabble intro. This game also suffers from fps issues in the house even though my pc can more than handle a game like this. Another thing that comes to mind is lack of direction in some cases like the code to the shed being on a photo that is on the porch and mind u this game has a big area to explore too so its easy to miss. I am not sure if it was because of my brightness settings or something but I did miss the entity at the window of the shed and didn't see them outside at all. Something minor too is that I didn't know the cultists when they arrive at your door were burning someone since the flame makes it hard to see them I thought the klan was out here burning a cross LMAO. At the tunnel section I kind of wish there was a bit more detail since it felt more like random rooms with a breathing wooden baby in a crib and some random burnt dude on a wall in a hallway. Buggy, just buggy and boring. Would probably be good if it was free though.

This game was not good. It had a lot of things I liked, but ultimately this game is a disaster. It runs worse than garbage, it's easy to break, crash and softlock. It barely functions. But theres a world where this game was good.

I don't think it deserves all the negative reviews and is definitely worth a few bucks. The game is very effective in establishing a creepy atmosphere with a unique and artist look. I really liked the use of lighting. And it does this without any jump scares. I personally didn't encounter bugs.
