CULTIC

Look no further for some classic FPS action. Both episodes of this are absolutely worth playing, although the first episode is much stronger. However, skipping either would be doing yourself a disservice. At this price point, it is a steal.

Being a huge fan of Blood playing this game was a no brainer. My expectations were blown out of the water. Jason Smith has done a fantastic job of elevating the horror elements that were hokey in a game like Blood. Cultic's tone is serious, the horror is real and there is no amount of praise that will make the strengths of this game be felt by a reader, but I will try. The gunplay of Cultic is fantastic full stop. It is slower than many of the Boomer Shooters of the revival era that is currently going on, but the enemy variety and the strength of the guns make every encounter more tactical and very satisfying. The guns sound great and they all have unique use cases against certain enemies. Speaking of enemies the design of the enemies is reminiscent of Blood, but with more horrors. Instead of gargoyles and spiders you get twisted behemoths and blood soaked madmen. The graphics help in the depictions of the horrors as it obscures things enough to leave things open for interpretation. The shapes, colours and movements of enemies are distinct enough that you will not have any confusion between them (except between tommy gun and pistol cultists they are a bit fuzzy until the shooting s…

Cool retro shooter. If you liked Blood, you will like Cultic.

Cultic is a masterpiece. A must play for fans of shooters period. Though it's a retro shooter, Cultic joins the short list of those games that can stand on its own and even compete with it's inspirations. It has Intense, brutal, unforgiving, adrenaline filled combat with massive well crafted levels and a great atmospheric score. The fact that this is made mostly by one guy is an incredible feat considering how tight every part of this game is. Everything ties together for an unforgettable experience. My only real complaint is there may be too much of a good thing. Playing through on Hard and casually looking for secrets most levels in Episode 1 took me around 30-40 minutes. In Episode 2 I was getting 50-60 with one level taking 80 minutes and the issue is some of the levels are too big with too high of enemy counts. Most of Episode 2 feels like it has over 200 enemies every single level and it occasionally felt like a really awesome TNT Evilution. I'm sorry, It's a personal preference but I'm not big on things like BTSX that get too slaughtermap-y and this ALMOST reached that for me. Overall it just needed some editing.
