Cyber Crush 2069

I haven't played a game in recent memory that has as much charm and heart as Hollow Knight. It's extremely evident how much a labor of love this game was for Team Cherry. I'm not normally a fan of MetroidVania types, but this game won me over with its tight, fluid controls, hauntingly beautiful music, and gorgeous hand-drawn art style. This is a must play, and a true indie gem.

Cyber Crush 2069 is a hybrid indie title that blends dating simulation, match-3 puzzle mechanics, and light visual novel storytelling into a distinctly cyberpunk-flavored experience. Developed and published by Secret Labo, the game takes place in a neon-lit future where cybernetic enhancements are commonplace and personal relationships are deeply entangled with technology. You play as an underground ripperdoc running a small cyberware clinic in the gritty district of Little China, balancing your professional role as a fixer of implants with a more personal mission: forming connections, relationships, and romances with a cast of cyber-enhanced characters who pass through your clinic. The gameplay is built around two primary systems that alternate rhythmically throughout the experience. The first is a match-3 puzzle mechanic inspired by dating-puzzle hybrids, where players rearrange tiles freely across rows and columns to form combinations that generate resources, progress conversations, and increase affection levels. The plot for the characters is really interesting! It's great that the creator wanted to make models for the side characters. The world presented is fascinating and the characters are interesting. The dialogues and stories are well written. I didn't expect such things from such a game, and yet I am very positively surprised. Himeko's story is my favorite, the creators have made good use of the fact that the game is +18 and the story is not censored and the actions of the mafia of the future are terrifyingly fascinating.

Classic matching game/dating sim gameplay is pretty fun.

Another example of Steam needing a mixed review option. The gameplay and progression is decent if not a shameless copy of Hunie Pop's match three dating sim. The dating elements are incredibly shallow. You purchase random items for the girls which don't reflect their interests. Though, I can see how that would be difficult for the developer considering how void of emotion and personality all the potential dates are. Which brings me to the games biggest flaw, the writing. The "story" segments are so laughably terrible in tone and pacing. Ignoring the numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes, this feels like a teen's first rough draft of a romance novel. Interacting with the stereotypical heroines devolves into cringe, awkward one liners. The main character is such a perfect Mary Sue who shows no flaws and immediately resolves all the girls problems within three dates. The last two dates don't have any story beats and just exist to reach the "sexy" event scenes. Scenes which are so terribly voice acted and vapid that it breaks any immersion you might have gained by interacting with these brain dead NPCs.
